Everyone calls them striper candy. Why are they so great, and how do you fish them, do you use weight and just let them drift? thanks all

Back in the day we lived lined them for tiderunner weakfish they were never really a bass bait. We fished them like a live herring or bunker. Herring are striper candy

I prefer herring, and agree with what finchaser stated.
As for spot, from a boat you can liveline them with little weight or cut the bottom of their tail so they will stay down. This all depends on the depth of the water you are fishing. When drifting, I like to use an inline egg sinker, as light as possible.
The best thing about spot is they will live a long time in a pen as long as the otters don't get to them. If you folks who have pens want to keep them healthy feed them once a week, but not too much. They are like goldfish and will eat all you give them.
