Over the weekend I bought some of those rubber Storm Shad jigs, I think they are 7/16 of an ounce. I've never used them before but I hear that they are pretty good producers (under certain conditions). How do you work these things? Thanks in advance.

Toss em out, bring them in slow, the tail does all the work.

Over what area will you be fishing them? rocky, sand, strong current? There are different variations for each, could you be a little more specific as to where and maybe we can help better.

I fish SH most of the time, so I would say sandy bottom.

Mike if thats the case then what dogfish said. The action is in the tail. Keep them close to the bottom, don't retrieve too fast, but keep it steady. Also, shads are great for when peanuts are around, which they haven't been lately. So there are other rubber choices that might get you more fish, like spearing or sandeel types.
