Man dies despite CPR effort on boat off Beach Haven
October 12, 2010
BEACH HAVEN — A 42-year-old Willingboro man died Monday after he collapsed on a party fishing boat 20 miles offshore, despite a dramatic rescue attempt by the Coast Guard to save him.
The man, Michael Miller, collapsed about 11 a.m. aboard the Miss Beach Haven, according to borough police Capt. Matt Greenwood.
The Coast Guard flew a rescue diver to the boat and lowered him on board to begin cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while the boat headed back to dock, Greenwood said.
Greenwood said it took two hours for the Miss Beach Haven to reach the dock. The man was pronounced dead at the dock, he said.
Several other people were on board when the man collapsed, Greenwood said.
The Miss Beach Haven is Coast Guard certified for 100 passengers and crew, according to the boat's website.
The cause of the man's death was not immediately know, police said.
