The quality of the water is forever changing in our area. Sometimes it is cleaner than other times. How does the quality of the water affect the taste of the bass and other fish?

I'm not a big bass eater. When I do take one home, I like them from the spring when the water is colder, or right now. I feel the flesh is firmer and the meat tastes better when they are not eating a lot of bunker. Maybe that's just me.

I agree w/ nitestrikes if they are eating alot of bunker they are more oily than feeding on whitebait or sandeels, crabs etc.

X2. What fish eat makes a difference in how they taste. I eat bass all throughout the year. I can't dictate when I catch em and when I don't. I will say I like the taste of a spring bass. There is a definite difference.

I think there is a difference in blackfish as well. JMO. I like the way they taste now, as opposed to when the water is warmer.

Eating bass is like eating lobster. Colder water does seem to make it more tough. If I do decide to keep one it is always from the spring run.
