Kayaker found dead in Upper Freehold lake

by The Star-Ledger Continuous News Desk

Authorities say a man kayaking on a lake in Monmouth County apparently drowned after the kayak capsized.

The body of a Morrisville, Pa., resident was found in a lake at the state's Assunpink Wildlife Management Area today, state police said.

The man, identified by state police as 63-year-old Henry Kosecki, was found in the lake shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday by two teenagers who were fishing from a boat on the Upper Freehold Township lake.

The teens said the man had been fishing nearby when they first saw him, but when they looked back a short time later, the kayak had overturned and he was in the water. They then used a cell phone to call 911, and state police responded to the scene.
Capt. Al Della Fave, a state police spokesman, said the death does not appear to be suspicious.

Last time I fished that lake 2 weeks ago, the water was still cold. He probably had a heart attack, but this is a good time to remind people it's always safer fishing with a buddy. Sad to hear, RIP.
