Well, it's apparent that there are some ho's in this house. :ROFLMAO
Cardoc is becoming a master at it.
There was a thread a few weeks agoi, Cardoc was drooling over a Surfstix plug.
Then, all of a sudden,it mysteriously ended up at his house!
I thought since some of ya's excel at the art of hoing, maybe you would be willing to put up some pointers for the junior ho's out there.
Unreal. They are gorgeous. I heard about what you did for my buddy. Very nice gesture, he was very excited. Please let me know if you make the trip to my area.
So, cardoc, how excited were ya?
Did it involve you getting down on your knees? :ROFLMAO
Let's hear some of your plug ho tips, Cardoc, Rip, and others.....

On the beach a plug ho is a very highly regarded person! The skill to ho a plug from an unwary builder is an art!I don't believe Darksides is in any way insulting you in fact quite the opposite! He's giving you and cardoc props for being able to negotiate a valuable comodity away from someone for the sole purpose of fishing it!My hats off to you.So what kind of plugs do you normally throw?:dribble:

Cardoc and I happen to be 2 of the nicest guys that any of you will ever meet. Always respectful to others and we are just out there trying to catch fish like the rest of us. The only thing that we have done is compliment Monty, Surfstix, Finchaser,Speedy, Dark and others on the site for helping us along the right path of becoming a surfcaster. A surfcaster that is willing to learn all aspects of bass fishing, from equipment, plugs, lures, rods, tides, wind and most of all the conservation side so that there will be bass in the future for all of us to catch, especially my children. Sent a few pm's asking questions and getting to know these great people. We did not beg, hinder, act like poor folks just trying to get some stuff for free, we have just fallen into some really great realtionships along the way. The stuff that has been given to us and others on the site is totally out of these guys being kind and generous to people that don't act like J erk offs and pretend to be proffesional fisherman. I tip my hat to everyone on the site that has helped us out and are forever in your debt. Call whenever you need anything. We are now family and will be there like family should be.

Yup bro, we are like family and have similar dysfunctional nutcases in our families who go off at any moment. So it's comforting to know we have "family" here that is not going to go psycho on us at a moment's notice.

Besides, we both know the invite came from Speedy to come down and hang out for a little bit and in the process he would show us how he made plugs. Part of the sportsmanship. There are a few of us that don't mind sharing what we know with eachother. I have learned in life, there is no one person who knows it all and some who think they must. WE had a good time with speedy. We made a new friend, he showed us how he cuts plugs and then we were able to make our own. I will show pics of the plug in its unprimed stage, and then the process and finished.

Guys, you're reading too much into this. Remember that this is still the winter and most of us are chomping at the bit until we can get out fishing regularly again. This back and forth between us is only ball busting. We all know each other and that's what we do. No issues here, just some back and forth BB. And despite Rip being one of the craziest practical jokers I've ever met, :kooky:  he's a good guy, a good Dad, good people, and a good friend. :HappyWave:

** Let's try to get this thread back on track, people....thanks. :HappyWave:
Time for some plug porn......
Although some may think I'm against buying wood plugs....not really, just can't see the value in buying plugs for $20-30 that I may only use for a week and lose to structure at night......so most of the wood I have, I have "Ho-ed" it from other builders.......
The Art of Plug Ho'ing
1. There is a fine art to "plug ho'ing"............
Buying a plug from a builder....does not always qualify in this specialized ritual of acquiring tackle......
2. However, sometimes plugs are in short supply by different builders who are not building anymore, or who have passed on........this is where Kevin C excels at plug hoing........because sometimes you need to shell out big dollars to buy when the demand is high.....
3. I was talking to Monty today...and we estimated that Kevin K....was one of the top 10 plug ho's in the US...the guy has thousands of plugs,,,,all wood, and is probably a little obsesssed with growing his collection ever bigger.........
4. Today, he brought about 200 of his plugs to "get rid of".....and make no mistake...other guys were drooling and buying....so for anyone who thinks you can't find custom wood at a fishing flea market other than Berkeley or Asbury......it just ain't true.....:)
5. The mark of a true plug ho, or obsession, is going to a show, selling some stuff at a table, but not being able to resist buying or trading with others...Kevin did just that at the show today....
6. Also, you can qualify if you trade something of yours for a plug, (gear, a rod, reel, etc, the sky's the limit) or trade one plug, for another......this is plug ho'ing in its basic, purest form. :)
16388
1638916390
1639116392
16393
Here I present to you....about 1/20th of the collection of Kevin K.....one of the top 10 most obsessive plug collectors on the East Coast....
(when Kevin reads this, you know I'm only teasing ya....remember how many times I found an excuse to walk past your table....to "look" at plugs I don't need.... :kooky: :HappyWave:)
You will find plugs from every in-demand builder in America in the stash above....and these are just the cast-offs the guy and his son were selling.....
BTW, nice to finally meet ya's both.....best of luck on the vacation fishing....:fishing:

I was over Kevin's house last weekend, traded a rod for some of his plugs. He has a great collection, I think I spent an hour going through them selecting the ones I was looking for to fish. I find it really cool just looking at all the plugs he has from the different builders, great quality collection. He is actually looking to sell off the majority of his plugs.

Corner a Market
1. To own (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Own) a significant enough amount of a stock (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Stock) to be able to manipulate (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Manipulate) its price (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Price). More specifically, an investor (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Investor) corners a market when he/she owns (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Owns) so many shares (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Shares) in a company that he/she can trigger a sell off (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Sell+Off) if he/she dumps (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Dumps) the stock. For this reason, persons and institutions owning or buying (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Buying) more than a certain percentage of shares in a company must register with the SEC (http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/SEC) and are subject to certain restrictions.

By JONATHAN HOENIG
Headlines were made around the world this summer amid reports (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/foodanddrinknews/7897075/British-financier-Anthony-Ward-behind-658m-cocoa-trade.html)that Armajaro, a commodity fund controlled by British financier Anthony Ward, had taken delivery of 240,000 tons of cocoa, nearly 7% of the world's supply, worth upwards of $1 billion.
Given that speculators (http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/stocks/whats-wrong-with-speculation-21426/) had already been blamed for pushing up (http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/stocks/greens-pols-unfairly-point-fingers-at-big-oil-23147/) oil prices andcollapsing (http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/short-term-investing/the-president-revisionist-market-history/) the economy, many didn't hesitate to scapegoat the trader for making your 100 Grand chocolate bar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Grand_Bar) even more expensive.
Ward had "all but cornered the market in cocoa" and "held a big enough chunk to sway prices," warned the The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/25/business/global/25chocolate.html). AOLNews.com (http://www.aolnews.com/2010/07/19/stunning-cocoa-grab-could-hike-prices-lower-quality/) predicted the "stunning cocoa grab could hike prices" and lead to lower quality, and the British Press dubbed Ward "Choc Finger (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1295608/Choc-finger-Meet-real-life-Willy-Wonka-Anthony-Ward-whos-just-bought-incredible-658m-cocoa-beans-.html)," after the James Bond villain Goldfinger. The Huffington Post didn't spare the subtlety with its populist headline: "Armajaro Cocoa Investments Driving Up Already-Rising Chocolate Prices (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/16/chocolate-prices-armajaro-cocoa_n_649877.html)."
Binge and Purge
iPath DJ-UBS Cocoa Subindex ETN (NIB (http://www.smartmoney.com/quote/NIB/): 28.99, -0.18, -0.62%) 5 months
But as The Wall Street Journal points out an in excellent follow-up (http://www.smartmoney.com/article/SB10001424052748704828104576021501880774790.html) , the trade likely ended up a failure, with futures prices falling 30% since the summer and the firm now reportedly disposing of its stockpile. (Funny how "Investment Firm Suffers Loss," won't get nearly as much press.)
**Attempts to corner free markets (http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/stocks/the-triumph-of-free-markets-13029/) have always ended painfully, at least for those pursuing such gambits. As we wrote (http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/stocks/cramer-comments-hurt-self-image-of-hedge-funds-21000/) a few years back, prices might temporarily rise as a result of a speculator making massive bullish bets, but because the investor has to eventually sell to someone, and because nobody is bigger than the market, prices inevitably end up quickly correcting long before the operator can capitalize on the scheme.
**From a Sumitomo (http://www.smartmoney.com/investing/stocks/seek-strong-returns-in-quiet-stocks/) trader's attempt to corner copper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumitomo_copper_affair) to the Duke Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8H2FIf1oH4)' fictional foray into orange juice, Wall Street is littered with losses from attempted corners gone way, way wrong.

6. Also, you can qualify if you trade something of yours for a plug, (gear, a rod, reel, etc, the sky's the limit) or trade one plug, for another......this is plug ho'ing in its basic, purest form. :)
:fishing:
I was over Kevin's house last weekend, traded a rod for some of his plugs. He has a great collection, I think I spent an hour going through them selecting the ones I was looking for to fish
Monty the plug ho.....bet it was hard to leave when it was time....? :whoo: :HappyWave:

Dark, I wanted skinny plugs, Keven had plenty and I was very happy with what I picked out. But I kept getting side tracked, so instead of it taking like 10 or 15 minutes I may have been there an hour.....lost track of time just looking through them. Great collection .

Just wanted to state for the record that Kevin was sorely missed (at least by me) at the Hi Mar FFM on Saturday...I kind of took it for granted that he might be there selling those plugs that he doesn't consider "showcase quality (minor scratches, etc)"....He has sold name brand re than 50% off retail...if you do see his table at one of the FFM this year I bet you can't walk away without buying at least one....:fishing:
Those of ya's who know Speedy know that as a member of Asbury he will be at the Asbury show in March this year with his family, walking around. As far as I know, he's not selling his plugs yet. so "ho-ing" one from him, is still the only way to get one. :HappyWave:
Thought it was time to resurrect this thread. I've gotten to the point where I really don't meed much in terms of new gear. Other than basic terminal tackle and a few compulsive bucktail or rubber buys, I can catch whatever is out there, with what I have now.......and I probably have enough to last me till I'm 90...:o
But I know some out there are on the quest, for that one plug that they think will bring them large....so tis the season to be a plug ho......feel free to share any more thoughts you folks have....:)
