This makes ya sad when ya think about it.
The environmental groups can organize and present a unified front.
We fishermen, who have greater numbers and contribute millions to the local economies, have apathy about getting involved, and have an attitude of "Let Joe do it, let Jim do it"
Meanwhile the enviros are eating our lunch, and funding massive PACs against fishing issues and looking to close fishing access down in strategic areas.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee, people.
There are those out there who would like us to quit fishing and take up golf.
They feel with every fishing trip we take, we are "ruining" the environment. Whether we are conservationists, practice C&R, or truly care about the environment and the sustained future of fishing, to these people we are all scum. They view us as neanderthals who have no sense of the enviironment and surroundings we fish in. They view us as being too stupid to make responsible decisions.
And they fund PAC lobbyists, and committees, to further their interests.
With money, lots of it.
Thanks for posting, FC.
Seamonkey also posted this about the plovers. Enviros have succeeded in closing down a good part of Hatteras. Check out the videos he posted here:

Dark is right on the money here! These folks believe we as humans have no right to use the land we live on.If they had their way the beach would be closed to all of us.They have had success on the west coast closing off access to beaches and wild areas alike. Now I agree we have to leave wild unspoiled places, but what good are they if we as humans cannot access them legally?Imagine being arrested for goin into the woods,or down to the beach?Kinda ridiculous!!!
These organizations are strong and well funded but most of all they are united! We as fisherman have many splinter organizations which represent individual aspects of our sport. We need an organization which can fight for fishing as a whole, not just for individual aspects of our sport. Please post information like this whereever you may go!We nwwd to put up a fight or guess what????? Our kids loose!!!!

Whenever I think of environmentalists, I think of the chicks who don't shave under their arms, from the Grateful Dead concerts.
