bluefish reports - how early will they be this year?

I remember them being around toward the end of April. does anyone have any predictions when the first bluefish will be caught this year? Those demons scare me.:scared:

Looks like the guys in Jbay have an edge this time. ONE bluefish was reported caught 2 days ago at the entrance to jbay. On bunker. Guy's report said it was 27", and none have been caught since then. If true, I'm thinking it was one lone bluefish that was eager to get ahead the pack.

Last year when we had them in the ocean, it was a little early. They were also very sluggish. Reeling them in, they didn't even fight until they realized they were hooked about 15' from shore, and then would make a run.

Who knows what it will be like this year, only the shadow knows....:laugh:

Yeah the water has to be in the mid-50's for them to go crazy on top water. Love that aggressive bluefish strike, and the tail walking.

To me there nothing like blue fish. I just started fishing a few years ago on the east coast. There is nothing like a blue slaming a top water plug. I hope there early this year.

I feel the same way madcaster. If bluefish ever grew to 50lbs like striped bass there would be no other fish in the ocean except for sharks, whales, and pelagics. The intensity of a big bluefish fight lingers long after you bring the fish in. Bring on the bluefish!

April 26-30th

There will be rumors of bite offs and teeth mark on lures, and a friend knows a guy whose second cousin who is getting them now

BUT the thousands of fish moving up the ocean and into the bays and bent rods up and down will come in between those dates.

This guy posted a report, he was fishing at clason point in the bronx, 6 1/2 lb blue caught on worms.:kooky: :scared: get ready:eek:


[I skunked as most others did but one gentleman caught a nice 6 1/2 lb blue on 14 lb test.]

Blues all over RB are my cue to start the surfcasting season. Can't wait.

But first trout opening day to wet my line for the first time this year and bring home dinner. :drool:
