1343013431Heres a surfster I finished up yesterday, the paint scheme I was shooting for was a searobin pattern just didn't have blue eyes on hand (oh well)I also figured I would throw in some generalizations about surfsters.
They were origionally made I believe in 1953 by Creek Chub Bait Co. when demand was high for one that would hold up in the salt so they came out with the 7400 series which was the largest they made(7.25" and 2.5 oz.)
The best way to fish these is to cast them out hold your rod at about 11:00 give a good yank to get it to grab and then a slow painful retrieve.
The rear of the plug should ride high in the water column and the tail will move side to side on or near the surface making a V-wake
They are not the greatest casting plug do to the large cupped lip(pic #2) and lack of weight but as many metal lips, they do their damage close to shore.
For the most part a 2.5oz-3oz. is good for a heavier surf.1-2 oz. is good for calmer water(rivers back bays etc.)
