What pound test leader do you use fishing the Jersey Beach. Sandy beach, maybe a jetty pocket, but not rock hopping.
Throwing artificials (metal, wood, rubber).
Can choose 2 (day and night).

40 to 60 depending if there are blue fish mixed in day, v80 when it's all blue fish
50# at night

after fall run ends 30# on light rod for remaining schoolies into January /February

I use 50 lb almost all the time. Have 80 with me for when its nothing but blues. Also mix in 40, not sure if there is any difference than when I use 50.

50 to 80 for night time fishing in late spring, summer and earky fall when the big fish are around, bass or blues. I may use higher strength than others because I jump around a lot with areas of heavy current and rocks in the mix.

Day (when I do fish it, late fall), I drop down as light as possible, around 30. I want to remind people that when the water is crystal clear, like in some OC waters in late fall, a heavy leader will catch you less fish as they can sometimes see it. As indiscriminate as some say they are, even bluefish can be line shy. Picky bites have resulted in me downsizing my leaders, or telling someone fishin alongside me to downsize theirs as well.
