Do you target Stripers and Blues in July and August?
I fish Jersey and will continue targeting Stripers and Blues through these months.
Looking at my logs over the last 4 years I have caught a few bass during these months, but 2007 and 2009 were very good with blues.
Last year was dismal for blues and bass in these two months for me. I caught more Fluke accidentally than Bass and Blues together.
So far this year has been very good in quantity of blues for me (not much in size), hoping it will continue. Average year for bass, again not much of size for me.
I like fishing these months, challenging and I don't see many others in the areas/times that I fish.

I agree with Monty on this. I will still target Bass with plugs during these months, more of a stuborn thing with me. Plugging the dark and just not wanting to give in. The humidity and bugs can be brutal and you will talk to yourself about why you are out there, but it's too hard for me to resist.

Sometimes I luck into a Bass, most times not. But, to me, it's about being there and the effort, I enjoy it too much to stop during these months.

What surfwalker said. I'm too stubborn to pack it in for the summer. When the bunker finally leave, we usually settle into a pattern where some small bass can be caught at night. I either target them, or start hitting different bodies of water with the yak.

Or..... when big blues are finally around with consistency, switch over to big bluefish. :viking:

I have been known to travel 100 miles to catch 15# blues. I'm addicted to that fight. Many guys turn therir noses up at big bluefish and complain. That's ok, all the more for me.
Good thread, Monty. :HappyWave:

I start fishing for fluke, it's a way to pass the time and get out to the beach. My wife thinks I'm fishing, but I also bring binocs to the beach to scan for the best or smallest bikinis.:pig:

Smart man, except the hotties in thongs are kind of hard to see when you are 2 miles offshore in a boat. I would agree though, fluke are around, keepers are available if you weed through the shorts, and they make a mighty tasty sandwich!

I checked "target stripers" but I will also fish for sharks at night in Ocean County when it gets real hot and the striper bite comes toa screeching halt. I will also make a few trips to Montauk and either take a buddy's boat out or a charter. I feel if the fish are not here and you still want to get them, you have to go where they are. Same with tuna in NC for the winter,

We have blues and bass here in Ct for July and some of August. You just have to find them in the deeper water with a boat. If we can't find them, we fish for porgies or fluke.

I still chase the blues and stripers although the bigger blues tend to be offshore at this time.Which leaves decent striper fishing I tend to target early morning or at night with incoming water to cool things down some get them in the mood but also the 1st. hour of the outgoing can be killer as they turn their noses the other way to grab what is being flushed at them.

July and Aug. I usaully target Fluke, and Blues. By the end of Aug. (last week) the bigger blues start moving in and the bass action starts getting better. Fluke become an accidental catch as I start focusing on the bass. If weakies around I also get them in the mix.

I fish for fluke, but hope to run into the occasional bass or blue.

I switch to fluke, doing more projects around the house, and fish less because it's usually not worth it. Except for last night, got pulled into some bass action, so how could I resist?

I like stripers and blues because they fight better. I go to Montauk when the ss starts sucking as it has been lately. Even Montauk isn't a guarantee, but the structure is awesome there and you can usually catch something even if its a small blue.

I put fluke because they are easier to catch. I can get lots of small ones from the beach with gulp. I also got some snapper blues this morning at an inlet with small metals.

We don't get too much bass action in MA till the beinning of June. Then they stay until the end of Sept or early Oct, if ya are flexible and know where to look for them. I would rather fish for bass and blues. Simple as that.

I target fluke but always have a few diamond jigs handy in case some blues or bass show up.
