I screwed up on the exact dates, but Jon is having 2 surgeries. He could have had one already, I'm not sure. But I haven't been able to get in touch with him, I'm thinking he could be in the hospital.

thanks guys, tomorrow morning is my (2nd) pre-op exam; not sure when they will schedule me, but it's very common surgery, to repair a recurrent inguinal hernia. not that big of a deal, really, but thanks so much for your prayers!

not sure when the eye surgery will be done, still looking for an eye surgeon that will see me. they are pretty picky apparently. that would be to remove a trigidium, which is a growth that is obscuring the vision in my left eye. eventually it will grow completely over the pupil, so it needs to be done eventually.

hernia repair is scheduled for august 1.

from the conversation with the surgeon:

"if your heart stops during the operation, do you want us to resuscitate you?"
long pause
"i'll have to think about that one."

"is it ok if we give you blood?"
"only if i need it."

"if your left testicle swells up like a grapefruit, give us a call."
"will do."

"can you tell me exactly what we will be doing during your procedure?"
"i was kinda hoping that you all would know that."
(i wanted to say "making me look like george clooney," but they had me worried with that one.)

"do you have anything that previous surgeons have left inside of you?"
"you mean on purpose?"
"yeah"
"not that i know of."
(this one got me sent to the x-ray dept.)


all in all, it went pretty smoothly. took some blood, ekg, xrays, poked and prodded some, and sat around and waited in several exam rooms and waiting rooms, but all the waits were surprisingly short.

i tell ya, though, there are a lot of interesting characters wandering around the halls of UNC Memorial. and those are just the staff...

hernia repair surgery tomorrow 6am. relatively minor surgery, might be some issues because it's a re-repair.

still waiting to find out when the eye surgery will happen.

i sent a full monty shot to my nutty brother in Australia. that's what he gets for teasing me.

suffice it to say, everything of consequence turned completely jet black. the rest is just gruesome purples yellows and reds.

i think you're probably better off using your imagination than seeing the photos.

my best friend and fishing partner Ray, who lives in Manville, has been waiting for a transplant for over a year, but his wife tells me that they are hopeful that something will turn up this fall.
