Early morning to daybreak and night are better for stripers they tend to like to feed under low light conditions daytime is more of a bluefish thing of course the fall run is the unpredictable it can happen anytime bait and predator run into each other naturally all the other surf fishing conditions can change everything tides moon wind presence of bait structure.Honestly everyone who answers this has a different opinion if you strictly fish at night well night will be the answer and vice versa just like whats your favorite plug if you fish poppers alot you will tend to say poppers and favorite color I would say 80% of the surfrats will say white or yellow.Habs use to say baitfish don't change color at night.White will work at night and so does yellow if you give it a chance.

^ What he said, unless you are in the middle of the bay and tossing out clam bellies. Even for that, I like an overcast day better. For the bay, you are more tide dependent and for the ocean you are better off being out during the low light times described above.
