Pat Curran said fishing from the Ventnor City Fishing Pier has been lousy lately because of churned-up water.
But those conditions can be good for surfers. The piermaster related an unusual story Monday about a collision between a surfer and a striped bass.
She said an unknown surfer hit a striper with the fin of his surfboard Friday. Another surfer, Mark Hills of Ventnor, saw the injured bass, jumped off his board and grabbed it by the tail. He took the fatally injured but still alive bass to Curran. She measured it at 32".
