LI fishing: NY fishing reports for November 2011

Important when registering on our site -- use an active email address so you can activate your account to be able to post.

Please post fishing reports here.......as little or as much detail as you want to give.

Please note: NO SPOT BURNING! Posts burning spots will be Edited or DELETED!
Some veteran fishermen have put in years developing and learning about certain spots. Some of these spots can only handle a few guys at a time. We are losing enough access as it is, due to the unfortunate behavior of a few selfish people. No sense in making it worse.

For some areas, it would be wiser to say:
OutFront (Ocean) OR -- OutBack (Bay) -- if you feel too many people will figure out what you are talking about. "Spot burning" also could involve mentioning something specific only to that area. If you do this, your post may be edited, or deleted. Remember that thousands of people could potentially read these posts. You don't want to be fishing next to ALL of them at the same time!

IF you are fishing an area that is NOT residential, being vague is less critical. For example, it's acceptable to say (Any)Park, or (Any)Bay, or mention a specific state park that has loads of parking and can handle the crowds.

If you are unclear on this concept, ask yourself:

If I name this place on the internet, will it be too crowded for me to enjoy tomorrow when people hear I got 30 fish here today?

If the answer is "Yes", then you should probably not be so specific.

This month we're giving out plugs from Ace Baits, or something similar.

I fished a jb spot yesterday and today, windy white water, the bass should be all over the place. Where the heck are they? I talked to a few bait guys who were not catching either, whats up with that. This has to be the worst fall ever. Sucks big time.

Late report, fished out east last Weds in mecca. Not even one fish. It was like the dead sea. Was waiting for Moses to show up and part the waters so some fish might come through.

I hear you on that brother! This morning I fished a few spots between the Rockaways and Breezy. Covered a lot of ground but not even a runt for me, nor did I see a fish caught. ***? This is prime time for the fall according to when I have been catching in the past and the surf is void of life. The fat broad is warming up.

I check these reports to see how you guys are doing and figure when your fish will be our way. This is depressing. Sorry to hear its so bad up there.

Fished the last 2 nights, SS, near an inlet, tide top. Weeds, and more weeds. 1 runt on a bottle plug.

We fished near the FI inlet this afternoon, chummed clams in 30 feet of water, it was a little windy with the south wind. one small 26" bass, it sucked. Should have fished off Island Beach in Jersey instead.

lost at sea, you did better than I did. I fished near there in the morning, perfect timing and hopes of a good bite. Nothing ever happened. We saw clouds of birds working about a mile out. I guess they were done by the time you got out there.

Same here bassbuddah. I fished the western south shore, threw tins, bucktails, and needlefish., not even one fish would commit suicide on my stuff except for one skate! fall run sucks!

Sorry to hear that dudes. I have a cousin who lives in the rockaways. I don't understand why you all don't have the same sand eel bite we have, it must suck without them Today there was a guy from LI out on the bar with us, he said it was the worst in LI than it has been in years. My sympathies.

Went over to the dark side yesterday; Fishing snot out of Captree on the Island Princess. Took four keepers up to 36 and released about a dozen between myself and Will, my BIL. In my spare time I conducted a dogfish/skate population survey and I pronounce their populations healthy. Seas were rough, topping out at about ten feet. Waves were coming in from all angles. :scared:

What depths I have sunk to after a lousy fall surf season. :skunk:

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody! :HappyWave:

^Boat fish don't count! Sure they do, sounds like a good time. I'm getting ready to go on a boat myself after seeing that much of the action was out of reach this morning. How much did the Island Princess soak you for? And what size was the pool winner? thanks

Finally some fish, fished a FI piece today and managed 4 to 28". Tins. Fish were in close early then moved out as the sun rose.

We are all looking to catch fish Mick, surf is best, but a boat puts you right on them. After the terrible season we have ha so far this year I don't blame you. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family too.

Fare was $45. Didn't catch the pool winner as they called the pool without announcing it. I was going to question it but what the heck, the mate worked hard and the pool had to be in the mid thirties....not a lot of folks on the boat. May go out again next weekend.

I don't know about you, but that sounds fishy to me. Maybe it was the mate's friend and they agreed to split the money ahead of time. It just doesn't sound right. Good that you got fish though. I fished a beach near breezy tonight, the small bass are in, got 3 to 24" on rubbber shads.

Glad to see that you got some legitimate fish (non-boat). :d

I was surprised about the way the pool was handled but would have given the majority of it to the mates if one of my fish won. It's one of the perils of getting out infrequently. Regular customers get taken care of. And I'll know to ask the mate to let me know when the pool is being weighed, should I be fortunate enough to be in that position!

Happy Thanksgiving, SC. Hoping for a few more weeks.....

Yeah Mick, way to go to support Montauk, they have been hurting this year, and even the bluefish didn't show up in numbers.
I fished a FI beach yesterday in the rain, bunker heads and chunks, afternoon bite, got one bass 34" and 5 big blue dogs.
