StripersandAnglers Official Googan Thread....Googans and Googan Buckets,,,,,
Are you a Googan? :bucktooth:
Have you ever been one?
Or were ya born carrying a VS and 10' $400 custom honey lamiglass surf stick, did you come out of your mother's womb that way.....????
^ I had to throw that in, because if ya talk to some guys out there...you would think they were born knowing all that there is ever needed to know...they never throw bait, only throw the finest in plugs and wear the most expensive gear...and never make mistakes or get blanked when fishin.....
In fact, some guys out there may be actually noted surfcasters, maybe even authors, maybe even give a seminar or 2 (Disclaimer - we're not referring to any one person here, only a composite of some of the guys out there who think they are the top of the heap, and incessantly point it out to the new guys who don't know any better),.
..when a decade ago they were having trouble catching small bass on clams....and when they need intel, call their local tackle shop to hear where the fish are, instead of going out and making their own reports......

As I said, there are a lot of guys out there who consider themselves the best of the best, without actuallly having walked the steps and putting in the time that we all have to put in to get better....and turn their noses down at guys who fish bait, or who just aren't as far along as they are in their fishermen develpment skills yet....
And...at the low end of the totem pole, we have guys who are referred to as "Googans".
Who are these Googans?
What do they look like?
How do you differentiate a googan from an "elite" surf guy? :don't know why:
Is the elite surf guy better because he has more skill, or because he simply says so, has $3000 worth of gear, and bolsters himself by putting the "googans" down.....:ROFLMAO
These are all Questions that demand answers, so we here at StripersandAnglers wish to discuss Googans and Googanism in more detail.....
And if any of ya's have any suggestions, pointers, or want to add some links to other threads here. feel free....

True Confessions of a Googan Marathon Man....
A friend told me the other day... "Dark, you're a hardcore surfcaster, even if some think you're a little weird"....:kooky:
I ask you folks out there, if you met a guy,, who manipulates Rubber Lizard finger puppets as if they are talking, and posts the videos on the internet;...wouldn't that qualify as just a little weird?....
I've never been one to obsess if people like me or not, or think I'm weird...in fact the more people who think I'm weird, the more space I get out there fishin at night....sounds like a pretty good deal to me, no?

I have a confession for you all...
I was once a Googan, and still am, by some standards...
I was also an alcoholic and drug addict, check in the BillW thread if you have any doubts....
http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/...ou-know-Bill-W (http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/showthread.php?2318-One-Day-at-a-Time-do-you-know-Bill-W)
Now I'm a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, been clean for a few decades, one day at a time.....
But can I be a recovering Googan?
Or will I be one forever?
I don't have a straight answer for that, folks....
I'm just a guy who loves to fish...and I try to surround myself with others who love to fish as well...some of whom are lunatics and misfits...because I prefer the company of colorful people...to people who look down their noses at others....
So I say to you, googans and all those out there who are just learning about fishing the salt...embrace your Googan Spirit!

You'll make Googan mistakes when starting out, lots of em....but if you are determined, you will learn, and become a better fisherman from it....:fishing:
I'll try to post some pics and videos to help ya's along the way,,,,feel free to add anything ya want to this thread and any other thread I have highlghted below......and poke fun at me while you're at it....I got Finchaser doing it every day, so a few more won't matter...and it's all in goog fun anyway....:)
It's gonna be a cold winter, folks, we might as well try to have some fun while waiting for the Spring....

Special billing goes to Monty! :HappyWave:
(He may make some googan mistakes..but as far as stamina goes, I'd bet on him against surf guys half his age...he just has what it takes, and the determination, to go out there and give it his best to get a fish, even if it takes all night.......and yet, he still makes Googan mistakes, and ain't embarassed to talk about em...)

Googan Bucket...the DarkSkies Googan Bucket and Effumall Fishin Club Promo ...
History of Effumall Club...
Killie created the Effumall Club, with Finchaser, and Mike McG, as Senior officers...it was the antithesis of all fishing clubs...the club for people who didn't want to be in a fishing club (even though some of the best guys I know and talk with daily are in these clubs)...
http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/...l+fishing+club
,it was still a brilliant way to create something out of nothing....and to bring it to life. Killie created the original Effumall Stickers....and ultimately the Effumall Fishing Club T-shirts....
http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/...l+fishing+club (http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/showthread.php?5183-Who-needs-custom-T-shirts-or-stickers-at-a-great-price-EFFUMALL!!!&highlight=effumall+fishing+club)
Embellishing on Killie's original creativity... :HappyWave:... I created the DarkSkies Googan bucket.
Sadly, I used to carry too much with me when I went fishing...usually it was Sandy Hook at night, and if you broke or forgot something it was a 1/2 mile walk back to the truck....so I brought a white bucket with my extra gear...and because I felt ridiculous carrying it, I BOLDLY labeled it the GOOGAN Bucket....
Here's just one of the shirts Killie is famous for. They're so popular I heard there's guys out there writing the Effumall slogan on their white buckets.

We had some pics of that floating around here (post directly above) , and Mick has seen me bring it to the point at Sandy Hook...pure googan move, absolutely looking for ridicule....
I couldn't find that pic when I started this thread, so I dug in my garage, brought out the old faded Googan bucket, re-inked the letters, took it out on the beach at night, and took some more pics...

There ya have it folks...the official explanations of Googans, googan tendencies, Googan Buckets, the Darkskies Googan Bucket, Effumall Club, Effumall Fishing. etc...to further put myself in Googan territory, I accidentally deleted this thread from the database this morning....and luckily was able to push the "back" button and slowly copy each post into my e-mail so I could re-post...doesn't get much goofier than that....http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/images/icons/icon9.png

i'm thinking these are a few googan moves:
- throw plugs, metal or rubber while the little "hook protectors" are still on
- make a cast and the top end of the rod ends up 50 feet in the ocean
- have a fish take your rod while dead sticked
- hook your self in the back (on a windy day, not really your fault, its windy...things happen)
- falling/tripping while walking in the sand (can look silly)
- breaking off a lure during a cast, sending it 250 yards towards england
- premature bail closing........
(re-posting Monty's original response..)

I was a googan too, thanks for making it not so painful Dark. I think if you are actively learning and trying to get better, you are not really a googan. If you stubbornly remain stuck in one style of fishing (fishing clams when everyone else is fishing metal or bait), then you might be a googan. Monty I loved that thread where you got a hook in your hand. Thanks Dark for reposting it. I don't love the fact that you hooked yourself, but I thought it was hilarious that you used a rod and plug to try to solve your problem, thus causing you more problems. Only a fisherman would think of that.:clapping:

Dark has once again proved he is not firing on all cylinders by playing with yet another puppet in the Dark, plus he posts it in 2 different threads. There is no question Darkskies is the Googan of all Googans. It is a scary thought to try and imagine a person who could dethrone him. He will always be remembered as the master-baiter with the black bag of bluefish toting his Googan bucket which he still posseses.
Amen
:clapping::clapping: This is the highest praise, coming from an old Master Baiter (remember I know the stories of the herring ponds you used to have in your backyard.... :scared: )....and an Old Grouchy Basstard like you....I am truly honored with this Special Title you have bestowed on me..... :kooky: and will do everything I can do,, to live up to it! :bucktooth:  :wheeeee: :moon:
(I do wish you could be out there at night hitting this action....I know if it was 20 years ago you would have been out there every night without question...)
Waiting for the Spring?
Guys, the days have been blazing by lately. After work, all the free time I have has been devoted to fishing...and these jabs are just what I need, a shot of tonic in the arm,,,keep those jabs coming...:kicknuts: and thanks for the laughs......
And to let ya know ya's inspired a West Wind Ralph Googan Bucket Video!! :clapping: :HappyWave:

Dark, I heard master baitiing gives you hairy palms - makes it hard to flip the bail and cast - be careful on that one dude.
