From Ristori's report today. Bluiefins in March. Can it get any crazier than this?
"The first spring mackerel run in years has been occuring off the Long Island South Shore, though no Jersey party boats have been joining in. Jesse York also reported to his Atlantic Beach Rod & Gun Club members that bluefin tuna have been spotted among the mackerel schools. "

I know some of the guys who were out there. Incredible to see tuna in close so early. This might be a year to remember.

Heard of recent action offshore. Yes it may be sporadic, but it is still exciting.

Some more sightings
"Saturday's weather prevented Capt. Erwin Heinrich from fishing in the ocean with his Scales N Tales from Twin Lights Marina in Highlands. He intended to fish live bunkers for the 40-pound stripers that had been the target since last week, but was also bringing a couple of 50-pund outfits after having seen bluefin tuna attack those bunkers this week in just 65-foot depths.
Earlier in the week, he was trolling a Rapala when a fish started stripping line faster than any striper could do. A tuna was suspected, and that was confirmed Friday when one was briefly hooked and another followed a bait to the boat. The latter came out of the water -- and was no ordinary bluefin, but rather a giant of over 500 pounds. Though giants have been seen chasing bait close to shore late in the fall, I've never heard of them so close at this time of year."
