how big do male striped bass get?

I was reading a fishing report from a professional captain and he reported a 53 inch male striped bass?

"a 53 inch lean male that only weighed 33 pounds"



I thought I read somewhere on this site that the males are smaller and only get to 30 inches or so. So how is it possible that a male striped bass would be 53 inches?

Baitstealer you should not believe everything you read. The capt that posted that report was cited for fishing in the EEZ several weeks ago. He's so full of fake stories you have to wear hip boots on any trip on his rig just to side step the bs he spews out.
A male striped bass, in my experience, has a definite top size. The biggest male I have ever caught was 31". I don't know what the top size would be, but it would be nowhere close to 53".

I could be wrong but I thought bass over 20 lbs were mostly females.
