KEYPORT A Marlboro man last seen taking his dinghy out to his boat at a Raritan Bay yacht club Friday night was found dead in the Raritan Bay this afternoon, the borough’s police chief said.
Savino “Sal” Mazzilli, 56, an experienced diver and boater, was found by jet skiers, Chief George Casaletto said.
There were no signs of foul play, Casaletto said.
Mazzilli, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, was found in his bathing suit. His keys, wallet and personal items were all found in the dinghy, the chief said.
“That’s why we assumed from the get-go that he might have fallen in,” he said.
Mazzilli was reported missing by his wife Saturday after he failed to meet her for the start of events tied to the Bill Volk Regatta at the Keyport Yacht Club this weekend, Casaletto said.
The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search by helicopter and boat that covered about 100-square miles out to sea before it was suspended earlier today, an agency spokesman, Thomas McKenzie, said.
Borough police and fire personnel, along with dozens of colleagues for nearby towns, also searched for Mazzilli.
