I have used killes and squid, or squid and spearing, until recently. Always had the feeling that something live is better Since killes went up to 10-12/pint, I have been testing to see which produces more. So far gulp wins. We are using the chartreuse gulp swimming mullet with bucktail on the bottom. The weight varies with the tide, drfting the channels and flats.
About 18" above we use another gulp mullet, Or a grub tail or a shrimp. Color could be chartruese except in the case of the shrimp when we use the new penny color. This year gulp has outfished the live bait 2:1. Has anyone else had the same experience?

This is just from the surf and what works for me. I used to use spearing on an egg sinker rig. Since going to double gulp mullet rig it seems like I am catching more keeper fluke. Or maybe there are just more bigger ones around this year. All I know is that gulp works pretty well.
