Nice work. could you throw them with a regular spinning pole or do you need a thick conventional?

I can throw his plugs with spinning gear.
Some need a rod rated up to 5 oz, most not.

as monty said, you need a rod rated for large wood/stuff.I only fish with winch rigs so,spinning is almost unknown to me,I switched many years ago and have not used one since.
yes,you can do it with spinning but,a heavy duty spinning rig.

Another thing to think about....
If you fish current or rips, some of the favorite waters of Rip-Plugger...there is a lot of drag from the current...
As he and others said, you can do it with a spinning setup.
There is a recent emphasis on getting bigger fish with spinning gear, and a lot of guys consider it a badge of honor to bring in a large fish on spinning gear,,,,tuna, large bass, etc....
But if there is a chance you will be releasing the fish..... if you end up in a battle over 5 minutes with the fish, chances are (depending on the water temps) you release that fish, and 1/2 hour later it will be floating dead somewhere....
Just something to think about guys....
Learn from the old timers,,,,
When you start to target bigger fish in current, bring the conventionals for the big girls.....:learn:

what darkskies said,,,for the larger fish a winch rig is the way to go.
more control from the shoreline and mostly more line capacity.
one can also fish mono easier as line thickness is not so much of an issue as with twister reels.

thanks M8 and yes,I agree about the bunker, they are in large amounts this year, they have been around all season.
there are still lots of bunkers around and now 5-8 inch herring are showing up now.I saw a few a guy caught with sabiki rigs.
they are beautiful fish too, with the irrdescence and all, large eyes and silver scales, look awesome.
