View Full Version : NJ Tackle Shops......Who's Open?

DarkSkies

Tackle shops need the business.....
And area businesses, once they are open, need to get the revenue stream going again.

If this does not happen, some tackle shops and businesses may not make it to next year.....http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/images/icons/icon9.png

I fished a devastated area a while ago, and felt bad about it...
Have since come to realize that there is nothing to feel bad about, going fishing.....

Some of us need to be out there.....fishing for us, is as important, as the air we breathe......
No need to feel guilty about that......and the tackle shops really need customers as they begin to make their way back to normalcy.

Again, the tackle shops do need your business, and if we aren't willing to let the Walmarts, BassPro, and Cabelas of the world take over we must try our best to support our local tackle shop......

I would encourage those who haven't been out yet, to drive down to their local shop, if it's open, and buy something just for the hell of it. They really do need your business. All of them.

**The added bonus is if fish are being caught in that area, they will tell you exactly where and how....there is no reason for them to BS you....they need your business and know that honesty goes a long way towards you coming back........Thanks.

I took pics of open NJ tackle shops in areas I passed through yesterday. I'll post them when get a chance.
In the meantime if any of you members have any knowledge of who's open (this list may grow as more get back to normal)....

Feel free to post about them and where they are located.....
This is your chance to promote any favorite tackle shop you want.....

I don't care who they are....as mentioned they all need our help......

Another one bites the dust. Oceanside Bait and Tackle
So true, ds, this was recently posted by Val from Oceanside Tackle in LBI. She helped a lot of people who first started fishing each year. She always had good info where the fish were biting, and she held a tournament every fall with a great bbq at the end of it. Now all that is gone -

"Well With a lot of thought I have made up my mind about Oceanside Bait and Tackle. For many reasons I will not be able to re-open the store. I want to thank everyone that has supported the store over the past five years! This is a very hard thing for me to do because I loved my customers and anyone that knew me, knows that is true! Please dont ask personal questions, just know that this was my only option! I have a few things that were saved out of the shop and will be going to the Barnegat Flea market Dec 8th and the Columbus Market on 206 the weekend before Christmas! I think ill miss the kids the most! Please continue to shop on LBI for your fishing needs at Fish Heads, Jingles and Surf City Bait and Tackle! stay out of *****! haha!
Please support me at the markets! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT THROUGH THE YEARS! I WILL MISS YOU ALL"

Jack is fully stocked with bait, and all the colors of Daiwas that have been getting fish.

Some Daiwas....I even bought one that day to support the shop...please consider doing the same, to any local shop you know. Many shops are not bringing in that much business as the majority of fishermen have packed it in for the year already.....and this to me is sad, as there are still fish out there......

Surferman, I've met Val a few times....she is exactly as you described, and she loves to fish.
This is but another example of the after-affects from the storm. Please support these shops as she is not the only one struggling.

Good to hear, people.

At any one of the shops mentioned in this thread, all you have to do is walk in, buy something.... and they will tell you exactly where and when the fish have being caught,,,,and what's working....no BS...because they really do need your business.......

Gift Certificates.....
Please consider gift certificates as well.....
I was in Castaways B&T this morning, BSing with the old salts.....

a woman comes in, wants a rod and reel setup for someone in her family for Christmas.....
Joe Melillo, instead of selling her just any one that the person might not be happy with.....
Instead sold her some gift certificates....that way, the person can come in and Joe will outfit him with exactly what he needs, nothing more, nothing less......

Great ideas for Holiday Giving..... :fishing:

^^ A little history of cement shoes.:HappyWave:

The following month the Sunday-paper supplementAmerican Weekly ran a sensational spread about a police raid on a Rhode Island “murder mansion” owned by a wealthy Walsh associate named Carl Rettich. The money detail was the cops’ discovery of a secret dungeon below the basement, accessible only via a hidden stairway revealed by cranking a phonograph handle in a concealed socket. According to unnamed “stool pigeons,” Walsh had been taken down there and clubbed on the head; his body (maybe dead, maybe not) was laid in a coffinlike box that was then filled with concrete and dumped in the ocean. When Walsh’s girlfriend later got too vocal with suspicions regarding her man’s disappearance, informants said, she was herself hustled down to the dungeon and given the feet-in-wet-cement treatment, the thugs having learned from experience with Walsh that head-to-toe encasement produced a needlessly heavy burden. But no bodies were found.

After that, stories about underworld cementwear became common, and terms like “cement shoes,” “cement boots,” and “cement overcoat” took their place in the crime writer’s lexicon. A news story from later in 1935 cited “underworld report” to the effect that the body of Bo Weinberg (he and Dutch Schultz, I should clarify, were real people fictionalized in Doctorow’s book) had been sealed in a barrel of concrete; in another article police speculated that he’d been given concrete shoes and dumped in the East River. Weinberg’s corpse was never found either. The body of gambler Charles Morris was found encased in concrete beside the Connecticut River in 1938—but the guy that killed him wasn’t, it happens, a gangland type. A 1940 AP story about Murder, Inc., the famed mob hit squad, claimed gangster Harry Westone had been tossed into a cement mixer; his unrecovered remains allegedly lay somewhere beneath an upstate New York highway. In cases where bodies did emerge, concrete has functioned more as accessory than garment: The corpse of Philadelphia racketeer Johnnie “Chink” Goodman was discovered in a New Jersey creek in 1941, weighted down with a 40-pound block of concrete; hit man Ernest “the Hawk” Rupolo was fished out of Jamaica Bay in New York in 1964, also weighted down with concrete blocks.
