I don't understand how you start a thread by only posting the pictures of the reels? What is the logic? They do look nice, but even a birthday cake can look nice on the outside and have poor quality ingredients on the inside. that's about where the quality control ends.

If you look around you will see pictures of Canyons actual reels with their logo & everything on the reel in the picture, being sold as another name brand reel. Anybody who would buy that reel from a company that cropped a picture from Canyons Website and was not smart enought to even hide the Canyon logo on the reel.....deserves to waste their money. (ABC Reels New HS15 - with a pic of a Canyon Reel, logo and all?? ) Really? Thats just too obvious! Just like the other companys taking the names off Canyons boxes. Its crazy to be honest!!

The big issue here is simple ..... there is a manufacturer out there that is taking credit for building the Canyon Reel product. That manufacturer is misleading these other reel companys. They cant be doing Canyon's product, because Canyon uses products from several different suppliers. Unless your shipping that factory to NJ, its not the same product. Canyon's frame manufacturer is obligated by legal contract to manufacture for only Canyon. Canyon expected this to happen and covered the bases before we even heard of these other companys. Not saying these other reels are bad, Im just saying that Canyon is not a part of the topic at hand. They may be the reason why, due to the success of their reels, but they are not a part of it.

Let me add that a company is not only made up of its products, but the service and people in that company as well. Canyon has several charter boats that have converted over to their reels. NONE of them have been given any reels for free. Every boat has purchased all of the reels. Feel free to contact them and ask them for yourselves. I dont see reps from some of these other companys servicing their reels on the water? I remember hearing a complaint about "no information on the box" for a problem with one company not too long ago. Canyon is a local US Company with real people, not just a webpage with a shopping cart. Take a look at the dates involved, Canyon has been at it the longest I believe?

You will probably see another dozen or so pop up soon! Canyon is selling alot of reels and getting alot of attention in certain areas. This is just my opinion, but I feel these reels are poor quality like the omoto and sting ray brands. Their drag specs are not as advertised. The washers used are not even remotely of the same quality. Why would you buy one? Because it looks pretty on the outside?

the reel is such a close copy of the avet sx that the avet sx drag washer fits perfectly. so now you have an aji king with open spool bearings, side plate and pressure plate bearing that are packed with grease, and a greased carbon fiber drag washer. since there are no detents in the lever arm or cam, you'll still have to guess where "strike" is. "

I agree Capt. The omotos, sting ray reels, ajikings, all similar in inferior quality. If they work that's fine. Have an issue with something seizing up or poorly machined maybe the warrantee will cover it. I don't want that hassle. Would rather buy daiwa or shimano depending on the quarry. Canyon reels are good and I have found Jersey coast to be fair and balanced in the way he says things.
Alan Tani is without question the reel guru. His reviews are on boards all over. If he says a reel is inferior you can bet that it is.

What the captain and Baba said. Canyon Reels when they break you have to track down Tom or Don to get a new reel as no parts are available it's primarily a cell phone company and with Jersey Coast going OOB it will be worse. Also these knock offs always seem to die on a good fish. IMO not worth the aggravation just more Chinese and 3rd world country junk. The only 1/2 way decent one is Atlas. At least the big 3 stand behind there Chinese products with quality control, customer service,warranty and parts.
