These are made of ¼ x 1”and smaller steel bar stock scraps Ihad laying around. The tape is from a auto parts store. It holds up pretty well. Just gives it a flash in the water. I’ve caught some big blues on them; I pull them out when the blues are in blitzing mode or in thick in the spring. It doesn’t take much to lure them in. I ever caught a 24”red drum on one in OBX last year.

My buddy was throwing a bunch of junk away and there was a old set of spoon and forks. I took all the spoons and made some nice “spoons “out of them. I add some lead for weight. My biggest blue was caught on one of these. 15lbs I lady took a pic of me holding it, but she never posted it were she told me to look for it.

Awesome pic madcaster
if the water temps stay mild they may be in their usual back bay haunts early this year, say by April 10..
I hope so!!! I really can't wait to get back out there and Blues would be fun.:HappyWave:

I hope so too. Last year was such a disappointment. I don't think I caught a blue over 4 pounds. They were mostly 2 pounds. I hope they come in like they were 2 years ago.

Me too, not likely over 4 pounds, but i caught a lot more than 2010, which was unreal bad as far as blues for me. The only year I ever caught more bass than blues.

2009 and 2010 were great, 2011 was a major bummer. Hope it is slamming this year. Thanks for sharing the pic madcaster.

spring time I fish 90 % with stubby needles with color tails ,,,,10 % metal
but these are blues and the spring run ....dam near anything will do . I use a crome spoon one day and caugh blues .
stubby needle lets me unhook the fish faster
I stood next to a guy with a popper and he had trebles on the tail and belly. I would catch 3 fish ,while he unhooked one blue

^^^ Right-0, Single tail hooks are a good idea when the blues are blitzing. You can enjoy the fight, unhook your fish, and get back into the game more quickly.

Pebbles and I had a blast catching those blues....some slightly larger than 10#, bigger than they have been. We didn't do as well as you site sharpies..:thumbsup:..but combined for a total of 21......

The great thing about the action is it's the first time this year, that I have seen real aggressive topwater action like that.....
*The blues tore the hell out of Surfstix' Popper.... (which made her sad, she wants me to ask Surfstix to paint it again....custom pink popper he made for her got bashed to pieces...:( )

**Also hit aggressively on the Madcaster needle with bucktail siwash......

I didn't think to bring more poppers this trip.
As for me, it just has not happened with that topwater action, save for a few isolated dawn incidences.......the water temps jumping up and different size blues now here may have ramped up that action a bit......

Had a great time sharing stories and busting each other.

For us...the bigger blues seemed concentrated around sunrise....smaller ones with an occasional larger one thrown in, later on.
In all it was a blast....good times, good people...and hilarious ball busting.....
Even Pebbles joined in to make fun of me about always watching birds, geese, and swans.....
thanks for that, guys.....all good....

I rarely enjoy fishing with anyone other than myself lately...but some good times were had today.,....wish the OGB could have been out there with us....
And thanks for the laughs and your company, all...:HappyWave:
