OSTROMECHEVO, Belarus — A fisherman in Belarus was killed after a beaver attacked the 60-year-old man while he was trying to take a picture with the rodent.
The Associated Press (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/29/beaver-kills-fisherman_n_3352353.html) reports that the man was driving with friends to Shestakovskoye lake, which is west of the capital, Minsk, when they spotted the beaver on the side of the road.
When the man pulled over and tried to get a picture with the beaver, the animal bit him and hit a major artery in his leg, causing him to bleed to death.
The man’s friends were unable to stop the bleeding, and he was pronounced dead a short time later at a clinic in Ostromechevo.
“The character of the wound was totally shocking for us medical professionals,” said doctor Leonty Sulim. “We had never run into anything like this before.”
The man is the only person to die from a beaver attack in Belarus.
