I just checked out the monmouth beach cam. Looked slightly sunny with a s/se wind from the way the flag was blowing.
Then went to the manasquan surf cams. That showed cloudy and rough surf, fog, and what looked like SE wind. Anyone else ever notice this?
How could the weather be that different when they are like 20 miles apart?

weather usually changes around Deal do to contour of NJ coast line, been like that for years. You can also see the current that comes down the beach from up north go off shore in deal. another change takes place around the seaside Pier area very noticeable in a boat that on some days it's like 3 different oceans if you run from Island beach to the hook

ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK — A 48-year-old Berkeley fisherman survived Tuesday after being struck by lightning at Island Beach State Park when a fast-moving thunderstorm rolled into the area, officials said.

The beach was in the process of being evacuated because of the thunderstorm when the man — reported to be on the beach with a fishing pole in his hand — was struck around 1:15 p.m., said Lawrence Hajna, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The lightning may have struck his fishing pole, Hajna said.

The man was fishing in an area around Ocean Beach Area 2 near the swimming area, Hajna said.

Hajna said it is unclear if the man was already walking away or was still near the water.

The man, whose name was not released, was listed in stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to Maureen Gillespie, a hospital spokeswoman.

She said the man declined to speak with the media about what happened.

After the lightning strike, the man was alert and conscious, Hajna said.

However, Hajna said the man was complaining about numbness in his legs.

The man remained at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune on Tuesday night, the hospital spokesman said.

The popular Island Beach State Park reopened July 4 weekend for the first time after sustaining damage during Superstorm Sandy.

The Environmental Protection Department recently reported the opening of both Ocean Bathing Area 1 and Area 2.

Most oceanside access trails for beachgoers and vehicle access points for sport fishermen are also open.

The park’s marina on 24th Avenue in South Seaside Park remains closed because of damage.

Island Beach State Park stretches for 10 miles between the ocean and Barnegat Bay.
