its funny because I never heard that term until my buddy Nike who lives in Barnegat said it a few weeks ago. He said it was B(ayone)E(dison)N(ewark)(N)ew York (Y)yonkers I just made up the (Y) and the second N- but anyway, I thought that was pretty funny explanation of Benny.

I've been here 20 years can't help where my parents made me live. The term BENNY (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=BENNY) originated from the letters of the train stations on the Jersey Shore line where annual toursit come down to the shore and mess up everything between Memorial day and Labor day.

Locals can spot a BENNY from miles away. Mostly from New York, they ask the dumbest things like "Which way is the beach?" and "What do you guys do during the winter?", they can't drive for sh_t, they think they're sweet, they crowd out beaches, malls, and basically our entire lives. They know only the major roads to get to the shore + home, they think it's cool to come down for the weekend, go to one of the 50 clubs on Ocean Av., trash the state and leave on Sunday. The cops all come out after Memorail day and hunt for the New York plates until Labor day, they pay WAY to much for a shack a block away from the beach, they can't handle a Jeresy Girl (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Jeresy Girl) nor do they know just how good of a state New Jersey (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=New Jersey) is.
Best of all, they have no Fu_king idea what a 'Benny is. This is a quote from the urban dictionary had to start a new reply as this DAM website won't let you post in paragraphs'. But then again it's run by a BENNY :moon:

So true finchaser. We should have made the tolls to take the roads East from the parkway set at $10/trip. Anyone living in ocean county or atlantic county would be exempt. Thnk how much revenue that would generate. If you don't like it go to Wildwood!:moon:
This from wikipedia
Benny is a derogatory (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Derogatory) term used by year-round residents of the Jersey Shore to describe rude, flashy, loud tourists from North Jersey and New York. Since local residents appreciate the tourists' economic contribution, the term "Benny" sometimes refers to only those unpleasant tourists that cut lines, drive recklessly, start fights, park on the wrong side of the street, harass women, or deliver other disrespect. Benny is actually an acronym for the tourists' origins of Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, and New York - and areas around them. [The "B" may also stand for "Brooklyn".] One erroneous definition put forth by some[who? (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Avoid_weasel_words)] is that it is short for benefactors for the money they spend at the shore. Most local residents have never believed this definition.[citation needed (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
The term 'Shoobie (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Shoobie)' is used by residents of resort communities in the southern New Jersey Shore, from Long Beach Island (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Long_Beach_Island) to Cape May (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Cape_May). The term shoobie was originally used to describe day-trippers (http://stripersandanglers.com/wiki/Day-tripper) who took the train to the shore. The train offered pre-packed lunches that came in shoe boxes; hence the term "shoobie." However, over time the meaning has changed to include tourists that wear sneakers or shoes on the beach, as opposed to most locals who go barefoot on the sand.

I hate the guidos more than anything else. It boggles my mind how the series Jersey Shore ever got so popular. Must be human nature and the fact that everyone lovea a fight. A fight in every episode. Makes you think how many people would have watched if there was no fighting or arguing.

They are also funny as heck when you are fishing on the beach. "what fish are running today?" Or there will be a bluefish blitz of big choppers. You take them out of the water and they see the teeth. "hoo-wee those teeth are big!". You never know what they will say. Have heard some real strange things over the years.

Great point fishin mission. When most folks drive down to the beaches they focus on the main attractions and the glitz and glamour. Was just talking about this with Fin the other day. Many businesses are still not back to the volume they once were, including your local tackle shops. Please try to spend a few dollars in them whenever you can. Thanks for reading.

From the OGB...
Bengoog.....Hybrid word used to denote a combination of "Benny" and "Googan"
Loosely translated, it could mean
1. You are a Googan who lives far away from the water...trys to fish anyway...fails miserably at it..
2. You are a Benny, coming down to the shore on vacation...tries to catch fish..but always in the daytime.....and cannot seem to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
ShoobieGoog...
Similar to the above but using the word "Shoobie" in place of "Benny"
This is an insult of the highest order, and one thing to avoid being called...if you want to be taken seriously by other fishermen.

shoobie (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shoobie&defid=979640)
1. n. Regional nickname denoting a toursist to the southern New Jersey shore. This term originated in the 1920's when tourists, visiting the beaches were easily identified by the shoeboxes they brought to carry their lunches.
2. n. Any person who looks out of place while at the beach. Usually identified by the wearing of black party socks with shorts and flip-flops (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flip-flops) and/or a severe sunburn.
shoobie (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shoobie&defid=1194541)
someone who thinks they own the beach when they go just for a weekend or a summer most of them deserve death...even tho they are the reason our economy survives.
the guy who doesnt know how to drive a circle and insists on drivin in the fast lane even tho he is goin 70 and you dont even have to read his license plate to know its from PA and then gets angry when you flip him off as you go 90 past him

Hey the bennys do give revenue which lets some real estate taxes be paid by business owners. Also the wheels of fortune where you can get an animal or game that cost 1 dollar for the privelege of spending 5-10 dollars before they actually win lol.
So they have their benefit. I do agree though. So tired of the extra traffic, crying kids, spilt sodas and ice cream on the sidewalk. They cut through peoples properties because some are too lazy to walk the right way. I have friends in Point who live almost on top of the boardwalk. They told me they were there at their summer house this weekend and one family actually walked onto their property and peeked inside the windows. Who does that? what happened to basic manners?

basic manners went out the window in the 70's when folks stopped dressing up to go on airplanes and families stopped eating regular meals together. bring back the 70's and I'm good to go.

Bennies aren't that bad. As bababooey said they do bring money to the shore folks that need it. My biggest gripe with tourists and folks visiting an area for a short time is some of them feel the municipal employees are there at their beck and call. They seem to litter more because of it. If there is no trash can around I understand. However there is no justifiable reason at all to toss your childrens' dirty diapers in the sand on the beach.
