As a newbie tyer I was curious what size thread you guys use? I've been using 3/0 size and has been working fine..Also can I use thread from a regular sewing/craft store or is there something special about the tying thread? Only place that has tying stuff by me is a bit of a ride would rather get it closer to me if I can..

I have tried uni waxed 3/0 and it's tough stuff; no complaints here.

I also have a couple of spools of danville 210 flat waxed thread and it's easy to tie with and very tough.

My favorite would be danvilles ultra fine mono but it takes a little getting used to at first. It will disappear under epoxy or clear cure goo. Works great to hold eyes down or material until you epoxy or clear goo over it.

Thread is cheap ($1-3) at most shops; don't be afraid to try some and see what you like.

Betty and Nicks use to have a small fly tying section (see you Sunday :)).

I use regular thread for my bucktails and tying thread for teasers unless I can't get the color I want then I will use regular thread.

When I tied these flies I only had white thread.

Sharpie marker set let me finish the bodies any color I wanted.

Just let it dry well before coating.

The bottom two flies I wrapped with Bills body braid in silver.
