Looking very nice. Is the Maple wood denser? Floating?

nice job. Didn't know a lot of guys were using maple. Is it harder to work with than pine?

Maple is good for sinking needles but weighting has a big factor on how fast, deep and the angle they sink ,Birch is also good for needles. As far as working with them pine is very soft so it turns easier on the lathe it is not the greatest wood for needles.
