How bad is your plug habit?

I went early to the Berkeley show today. It seems like there are 2 groups of people that come in to these shows. The first group reminds me of the speed freaks or the crack heads you see on some city corners the ones that come up to wash your windows with dirty water and a squeegee. The glazed eyes vacant look and blank stare. Like they only have one thing on their mind to get the plug that is the hottest and buy as many as they can. Some of these dudes sell them on e-bay good for them. One guy today was jumping back and forth while his wife or girlfriend held his place. These are obsessive collectors.
There are others like me that just fish them.

Around 10am the hardcore plug addicts are done and then it seems like the normal folks come in. You can tell a difference in the clientel. So which are you the hardcore addict gotta have it guy? Or the I buy it and fish it guy?

Some of that bidding is crazy! I would never pay $100 for a plug. but $20, $25 that seems reasonable for a plug that catches. I don't go overboard. I buy 3-5 plugs per show depends on what I need. I keep my addiction in check lol.

That's about what I do too (3-5 a show), whatever I buy gets fished.
I guess I keep my plug addiction in check most of the time...

I was there today. I asked the guys at the table where you pay to get in if there were any waiting to get in before the show. They said they were. Thats real hardcore. You leave the house at 4am and your wife knows the show starts at 9. Lucky she doesn't think you have a mistress on the side lol.

Kevin was on line around 1145, next guy was not to much later and some others after that.
They had a great time, lots of eating and bullshitting.
I think the first person in line received a free Black Talon plug, not positive on that. I do know that Kev was able to buy some real nice plugs (got a look at them).

Between the SOL food fling yesterday and the Berkeley show today I picked up about 20 lures. The best ones were a guy selling poppers for $6 each. Not the quality of a D Mag or Ron Muccie but great for throwing at blues. I did buy a couple of good pugs too. Guess I am a junkie.

$6 poppers scream bluefish fun...only two more months to go! I miss them so much :d

I buy a few wooden plugs here and there but they don't see too much time on the end of my line with the exception of poppers and pencils.

I am a big fan of soft plastics!

I have a slight addiction. Maybe one or two per show if I can get something that swims differently. The colors, graphics, none of that really matters to the fish like you said. The fish don't care. They don't know it cost 49.99. The key is presentation and how you swim it past them, and throwing to areas where they sit on certain stages of the tide. You can do that with rubber too which is why I throw rubber and bucktails a lot. You can change the weight to get it near the bottom and come in contact with more fish

^^^^^^ Well said presentation and technique. That's what sets the best fishermen apart from the others not the plug they are throwing.

^ I thought the same thing for the last 15 years. Bunker pods in the spring mullet in the fall and the action at night on the sedges it offered a lot for not much driving. Now with the north jetty being fixed it has to have some effect on the fishing. Im looking for greener pastures if there are any. Going to make some trips to the raritan bay for spring blues and down to the ocean city area for seasonal night fishing. Never thought I would be saying that. This replenishment is for the birds. Other than losing the spring bluefish in the inlet I don't think much else will change. I rarely decorate the inlet trying for fluke, you keep more rigs and get just as many fish on the beach.

Funny stuff. There is always hope that the latest piece of wood will swim different if the guy who built it played around with the weights a bit. We are very easily suckered into the hype though. welcome aboard btw.

Welcome Homer,I've calmed down with my plug buying since I have been doing my own from kits I have strayed from just doing the kits as instructed and have been fooling around with weighting them differently I will not stand in line for anyone's plugs I do have a favorite builder and I will be trying out some of his work this year because the guy puts his head into what he does,lets face it there is only so much you can do to a piece of wood before it loses it's action and don't work anymore.I love my A-40's,Dannies&conrads time proven plugs unfortunately they are less effective due to the lack of large bass these days.
