A 65-year-old man clinging to a deflated life raft was rescued by the Coast Guard after his boat sank in Little Egg Inlet Monday.
The incident was reported at 9:53 p.m. The boater, whose name has not been released, had been expected to dock his boat and meet a friend at the Beach Haven Yacht Club.
He was taken to Southern Ocean County Hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia. Coast Guard rescuers said they thought the man might have died had he been in the water for another 15 minutes.
The man was not wearing a life jacket.
Coast Guard video shows the 40-foot boat flipped on its side Tuesday.

KEANSBURG (http://www.nj.com/keansburg/) ? The United States Coast Guard rescued two men from the Raritan Bay after the boat they were in capsized Monday morning, police said.

Fisherman on a beach called 9-1-1 at 11:56 a.m. reporting the incident to Keansburg police, Deputy Chief Michael Pigott said. The 12-foot aluminum boat started taking on water and when the men tried to go back to Keansburg Marina, the boat capsized about 300-feet from the end of the pier, he said.

The victims, who are Hazlet resident, clung to the boat until the coast guard arrived and pulled them out of the water and put them on their boat, Pigott said.
The men were in the cold water for about 30 minutes, Pigott said. The coast guard took the men to the Keyport Marina where Keyport First Aid transported them to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel for treatment, he said.

Patrolman Nicholas Angerami is the investigating officer, Pigott said.

Sad news today one guy is dead and the other one was saved. They were 82 and 84 prob life long buddies out for a little fishing trip. Anchor got caught in the prop. RIP

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Authorities said one person is dead and another is hospitalized after a boat capsized off Staten Island.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Raritan Bay near Great Kills Harbor. Coast Guard spokesman Charles Rowe said rescuers found the 19-foot power boat partially submerged.
Video from the scene showed only the hull of the small vessel visible above the water. Ambulances could be seen on the dock nearby.
Two men, ages 84 and 82, were pulled from the water, but the 84-year-old man died, police said. The 82-year-old man was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Authorities told the Staten Island Advance that preliminary information indicated their anchor line wrapped around the motor, causing the boat to become unstable

82 and 84 they were still fishing buddies. This is sad but also a uplifting that 2 old guys could make it that many years and still be able to fish together. I hope if I have to go it is on the water with a good friend. T&P sent.

I also read about it. Seems another boat came up to them, saw they were in distress, and motored away without helping. If it's true shame on them. thoughts and prayers to all.

Very sad news. This reminded me of Finchaser and some of his fishing buddies....
They have been fishing together for over 50 years, some of them....argue like cats and dogs.....but at the end of the day, they are fishing together, again....

My sincere thoughts and condolences to all the families involved......I hope they can resolve the issue of identifying that boat that stopped and allegedly did not offer assistance....
