Got this in my e-mail.
The NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is again warning anglers and the public not to harvest or consume blue claw crabs from the Lower Passaic River, Newark Bay and surrounding waters this summer and to observe consumption limits in place for fish species in those areas.

For more information on the consumption advisory, please visit http://www.state.nj.us/dep/newsrel/2014/14_0075.htm (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/newsrel/2014/14_0075.htm)on the DEP website.

For information on blue claws and crabbing in New Jersey, visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/blueclaw.htm (http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/blueclaw.htm)on the Division of Fish and Wildlife website.

Thanks capt. I would never eat crabs from there anyway. Too much dioxin. They should post those notices in spanish for the immigrants too,

Unfortunately some of the "less educated" still crab in the Newark bay, Passaic and Hackensack rivers. I always wondered if most of them are eating or selling the crabs.

I've seen some of the biggest crabs ever come out of these rivers (I've lived between the rivers for 25 years).

A F&W officer told me they are so strict about the no crabbing in these areas because they are worried that most of these crabs end up being sold to fish markets where the buyers do not know they are contaminated.
