Joel Abrahamsson was fishing less than a mile off And?rja Island, Norway, in 1,600 feet of water when he caught what is considered an unofficial record since kayak fishing records are loosely kept and estimated weights are often used.
The previous unofficial record (http://www.kayakfishmag.com/featured-catch/shark-the-heaviest-kayak-catch-ever/) was a 400-pound salmon shark caught and released in Alaska in 2008. The heaviest kayak-caught fish to make it to a certified scale was a 225-pound blue marlin caught by Andy Cho in Hawaii.
The following one-minute video of Abrahamsson?s kayak fishing record was posted at SVT.se (http://www.svt.se/nyheter/regionalt/vastnytt/joel-drog-upp-jattefisk), but the full video will eventually be published on YouTube.

That is a monster. Also pretty wild that within a mile from that island he was in 1600 feet of water. That's DEEP! Thanks for sharing, awesome catch!

Yeah I thought the same thing as well. You can clearly see the island in the pic and he's in 1600'. Bet there are a lot of big fish in that water. 50 lb cod would be a small snack for a shark like that.
