What did you catch your largest bass and blue on in 2014?
Big plug, metal, pencil?

largest blue was on metal when they came in the back bay in april. Man that was a lot of fun. About 17# released. Got it on a 1 oz diamond jig with green tail. Largest bass about 27# released in atlantic county in may. that one took an SP

17 lbs must have been a great fight hook! We got them both on clams this year in rb. My largest bass was 21 lbs a week before memorial day. Clamball did the trick. Largest blue was only 12 lbs but it ate a clam. Crazy.

What's a clamball? Is it as deadly as a clambrella rig? Can you use a clambrella in the bay or do you just have to stick with trolling the beach for maximum effectiveness.:)

My largest bass this year was around 20 lbs, on a Super Strike darter. Going to fish that plug more this year.

Biggest blue was in the pic below.
Ran into blues above 30 inches 5 or 6 different trips this past year, think that may be the most times in a year for me. All out on LI.
Had to work for them, non blitz conditions. They really get the adrenalin pumping for me.

Early season is it common to bet blues on clams? I have heard it before, thats a big blue eating a clam.

It was crazy in the spring with those bluefish. We usually try to fish clams instead of bunker when they come in to increase the chances of getting bass. This year it didn't matter. They had the appetites from hell. I think if you put any kind of meat on a hook they ate it in 2014. Didn't someone post something here about bluefish caught on chicken? I remember reading it. Not exactly sure where.

Nice bass! My best bass was 17 1/2lbs caught in may on a black danny plug on a new moon. I had some great bluefish fights in may as well. Hope they come back with a vengeance this year like they did in 2014. I will be waiting!

We didn't have many big blues like that close to shore or in the canal last year. Must have been an aberration for you jersey guys. Biggest bass was 24lbs. I had to kayak out in the islands area to get it. T and worm. We definitely had a strange year, very late season and sporadic bite.

Yeah I felt lucky to have blues come in so many of them and such large sizes. Hope lightning strikes again this spring.

Nice bass rip plugger! I am so jealous of you guys catching blues in the 15lb range we never get them that size in cape may without going on a boat. Must have been a blast!
