Bald eagle dies after getting tangled in tree

— A young bald eagle found hanging upside down from a tree in Pittsfield after getting its leg tangled in nylon fishing line has died.
Andrew Madden, district manager of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, says the bird appeared to be in poor health even before it was discovered in the tree Sunday.

The bird was upside down for several hours before it was cut down. It banged on the side of a house before hitting the ground.
An official from Fish and Game took the bird to a rehabilitation expert in Conway, where it died on Monday.

The young eagle was one of two birds hatched this spring by a mating pair that lives on Onota Lake.

Madden says the bird was thin, in poor health and was physically exhausted after struggling to escape.
