Kayakers in distress or rescued stories

With the season coming up I thought we could have a thread about kayakers in trouble. Not to make fun of them or anything like that but to learn from their experiences.

Rescue team finds man in Tuckerton marsh after kayak trip with girlfriend went bad.

TUCKERTON — A 62-year-old Camden County man who walked away from his girlfriend and their kayak after it capsized in Wading River was found in a marsh and rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard with the aid of a thermal imaging camera late Sunday, police said.
Stanley Levine and his girlfriend Amy Goldman, 64, both of Voorhees, were kayaking when the boat capsized. The couple pulled the boat to shore in an area of Wharton State Forest and, wet and dressed only in bathing suits, Levine set off to find his car and help before the cold became a problem, police said.
At about 5:30 p.m., Goldman was found alone by West Tuckerton Fire and Rescue Squad members suffering from hypothermia. She was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus, and listed in stable condition.
Officers from the State Police Marine Services Bureau out of Atlantic City led the search for Levine along with State Police from Tuckerton and the fire and rescue team. It was not until 9:24 p.m., however, after a Coast Guard helicopter had been deployed, that Levine was found.
Using a camera that detects body heat, Levine was found in a secluded marsh, apparently lost.
Levine was pulled out of the marsh by the helicopter and transported to ARMC’s Mainland Campus with hypothermia.

Some people are so stupid they need to be rescued from themselves.
