any thoughts on albie hooks on metal?
A size 1/0 hook is pretty small. That's right in the sweet spot for saltwater fly fisherman.

The SL11 and SP11 are both 3x hooks yet have thinner gauged wire. They are the same hook just a different bend at the shank; the SL has a traditional o'shaughnessy bend.
The SC15 is a great hook as well and if you wanted even stronger in that style buy the SC17 which is tarpon grade.
The teasers on the right are 2/0 Mustad 3407s. The 3407 is a trusted hook in sizes 4/0 and above that's what most of your commercial teasers are tied on. It's also what you will find in a Blue Frog bucktail or Andrus Jetty Caster in sizes 7/0 to 8/0. Same style as the SL11 just much weaker and cheaper in the smaller sizes.
I would stop in at tight lines and see these in person. I know they carry all of the hooks mentioned above except the 3407 (not sure if they have these).

Thanks JB, will stop in there this week.
Have to check the eye size, otherwise these sound perfet.
Thanks big time.

JB, Stopped in at Tight Lines and picked up 3/0 and 4/0 SC15-2H.
Think they will be fine. Thanks!!!!
tightlines fly shop in Parsippany?

Yes, great store.
Fished this morning 2:00 to 9:00
Had a great time despite my inability to catch fish.
New area, liked it a lot.
Found some nice white water and I should have caught more fish.
Had the weekly Hogy bit in half at sunrise.
Missed a couple hits, small fluke on a darter.
Then finally at 8:00 I landed a short bass on a Superstrike popper.
Had missed a fish about 10 minutes earlier on a Mambo in the white water, then FINALLY that bass hit the popper in the white water.
I haven't seen many stripes this year, so it was nice.....
Had a great time, nice morning, really enjoy fishing that type of water. Even squeezed a quasi sunrise pic out of the trip.

Nice pics Monty and WTG on the bass...I LOVE that popper have the same 1 and its caught me many a striped one...I really need to get out to LI someday...Ive been really dieing to fish out there but can never find the time or $$ to do it..Me and the wife inculding her sisters were suppose to take a vaca out there this Sept but no dice since my wife hasnt found a job yet...Hopefully some day soon i can check the place out....Sucks being broke :D
Awesome sunrise and pics thanks for sharing
Superstrike is one of my go-to's as well. Nice report and pics.
I have been fishing for bass at night where the slip gut is less, which really cuts down on fishable places. In the last week I picked up 5 bass on SPs fishing 2 hours after sunset. Before that not so much. I am hoping that the end of the month will bring less weeds and a few more storms to clear it out. Tight lines everyone
August always seems to be the weedy month tough fishing
Fished this morning 2:00 - 8:00.
Beautiful morning, 2 shooting stars. Would have traded the shooting stars for some rain at sunrise.
Some small weeds/muck in most of the water, needed to check line after each cast.
Caught 3 short bass, 1 on a 9" sluggo around 4:00, the other 2 on yellow Howdys around 6:00 and 7:00.
Had a few hits and misses, lots of fun working a mile+ of beach. All fish and misses were in the white water.
Casting over the bar saw no action.
Did not see any bait or birds working, didn't even have the usual Hogy bit in half

Nice thanks for the report. Any idea of the water temperature?
^^^^^^^^^^^
Felt cool, the surf report for that area said it was 69.
Good job Monty...
I'm sorry you didn't get your hogy chopped in half; that's kind of becoming your "trademark". I would throw that one away it may be defective.
Thanks, but not really, lots I could have done better/different.
Spent too much time in one spot instead of working it like I did the others the remaining trip.
Most of the "action" I had came on casts 30-45 degrees instead of straight out. Should have done more of that, a lot more.
Wanted to throw Mambos a lot on this trip. Did some but not nearly enough. Lots of second thoughts. There is so much more structure on the beaches up on LI than jersey. Lots of fun out there trying to figure it out.
Think I made one good decision when the vehicle with the head lights lit up the surf and I did not follow fishinmission78's suggestion and try his "ostrich" move... NOT
http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/...1133#post81133
I actually did, there had to be at least one blue in the area. Makes no sense. It must have been spinning. Poorly rigged.:beatin:
You didn't try the happy moon method to greet that guy?
I can't recommend it, but FnM did. If ya do it.. ya can call me if it turns sour...I'll come up there with bail $$.
I agree with John here.
This is not a fishing report.
No report is complete without a mini Monty story of how he "missed" a big fish on a Hogy. or got one bit in half.
This was terribly disappointing, bro! :(
You'll have to do better next time.
Googans all over the world are counting on it. :ROFLMAO :HappyWave:
Well the preliminary Sunday AM plan is an all out Hogy attack by me on LI :viking:
One thing for sure, if something I am throwing does not catch and I feel it should, I will throw it more and more. In true Googan style I'll show those fish what they want:headbang:
:ROFLMAO
First albie sighting yesterday very brief hauling a$$ down the beach didn't even have time to throw a cast.
That is good to hear.
Hopefully can hook up with them this year.
Fished form 2:00 to 9:15 this morning ocean side LI.
Nice south east wind, awesome looking water......but tons of weeds. Almost every cast got weeds on either my line or plug.
Threw lots of Hogys and nothing but weeds.
Did manage 1 ~20 inch bass at 5:30 on a loaded 7 1/2 inch red fin in some white water. Had a bump or two during the dark.
Walked further west today to try to get away from the weeds, no luck, but the bass was caught at the end of that walk.
Around 8:00 was almost done, fishing the last area where I would walk back to my vehicle. Was a nice rip perpendicular to the beach.
Throwing a yellow Howdy and it gets hit and I land around a 30 inch blue.
Then between then and 9:15 I caught 2 more around the same size. Lost 3 more in the wash (after long fights). And then lost one that I was losing the tug of war with after like 30 seconds. That one felt heavier and was much stronger (I'm a Knucklehead).
All other blues hooked or caught after the first one on the 2 3/8 oz white Little Neck. Its a frieking rocket.
Great time, love the blue action.
Liked the water....hated the weeds

Awesome report thanks for sharing. They really beat the heck out of the SS. Surprised you were able to get some fish the weed has been so bad Itook a break for awhile. Nice effort.
Good job
Thanks, its the kind of fishing I enjoy
Fished this morning 2:30-9:15.
Beautiful night, lightning over the water way, way out.
Not much happening in the dark, lost a fish early on. Worked a solid 1 3/4 miles of beach.
False dawn and picked up a Striper ~32 inches, kept it, plug was hooked deep. Then picked up 3 blues ~ 3 pounds on SS white popper and that Howdy, only lost one.
Then started the walk back, had at least 7 hits or swirls on plugs without hooking up. Was fishing SS needles often this trip, had a solid hit on a white one in a rip and my rock like reflexes tried to set the hook like 2 seconds late :beatin: knucklehead.
Then back where I started picked up 2 more blues on that Howdy, ~ 5 pounds.
Had a great time fishing that water. Was a calm surf, but the area had tons of structure that is fun to fish.

Looks like yellow is working. Also looks like some crappy east winds for most of the week here in NY you may want to save your $$.
I don't fish long island that much monty. Spent a lot of time at breezy point back in the day. I do enjoy the enthusiasm you bring in the reports. Thank you for sharing.
Nice job Monty! There was some real nice white water out here in Jersey last night just couldnt find any fish in it:huh:
Thanks, I spent a lot of time fly fishing streams and rivers for trout when I was a lot younger. Fishing the LI water which has a ton of structure really gets me excited. Like the fishing for trout did (walking, finding structure, fishing it and trying to fool the fish), get lost in the pursuit of catching a fish.
Thanks, I'm hoping for more white water this Sunday early AM. Was a bit calm this past Sunday.
N/NE this Sunday 2-4 ft.seas.That petty much covers demo to Montauk.Hopefully the water won't be dirty still from all the wind earlier this week.I'll be out for the week in Montauk on the 14th
Thanks
Hit the SS between Jones and Breezy tonight after work. Tossed shads and bucktails. some weeds. Found a good spot and picked at 3 schooly bass. Small and round on the bt. Great pics monty.
Well fished Lake Atlantic from 2:00 to 9:30 this morning.
Only managed 3 blues (two on white SS popper, one on Point Jude Po-Jee).
The one on the Po-Jee was spitting up 4" sand eels (Po-Jee was similar size to the sand eels).
Lost a couple fish, had the usual rod bender-drag peeling me not set the hook hard enough fish :beatin:.
Spent the last hour trying to cast 20 yards longer than I am capable of trying to reach a feeding frenzy.
Covered 2 miles of beach (1x in dark, 1x in light), really missed the white water, but after sun up there was a lot of action with swirls sporadic. Had a few 20 feet away that I was inept at hooking up. Not much action in dark 1 solid hit, maybe a bump or two.
Great time out there.

:scared:I'm sorry dude but that doesn't look much different from NJ water, Not even any white water in the pic? I don't see why you don't keep fishing Jersey too. I went out last night. There was a crowd in one spot. I walked a mile away and no one was fishing there. Still caught fish by myself. Everyone wanted to fish the crowded spot. The buddy system or hand holding fishing with friends. Hey I'm not criticizing your report. Nice pics. Nice sunrise too and glad you got some fish. Guess I just wanted to say there are some fish in Jersey too. We miss your Jersey reports monty.
:HappyWave:
Its actually unbelievably different than jersey. Rocks and boulders and cuts in sand bars, drop offs. The structure over the two miles of beach I fished is a lot of fun to fish. So far I have not had any issues with crowds on LI.
I have had to become more friendly and always say hi or hello when walking past someone. Also need to work at my chit/chat skills a bit, have had a few growls at me when I basically don't respond to someones little chit/chat. Its not like jersey in that way.
For instance in jersey when I first met Dark and said hello he yelled obscenities at me. I don't think that would ever happen on LI.
If there was not any beach replenishment in jersey a would never fish LI. The replenishment really disgusts me.
I honestly don't remember that. Was I really that bad?:embarassed:
I must not have recognized ya at first. I really ain't the friendly sort at night, like I used to be.
Finchaser broke me out of that friendliness when he started calling me "Mayor of the Beach" and "Dark Skies the Welcome Wagon".....:bucktooth:
I was friendly to everyone I would meet, giving away half my tackle in the process...because I felt sorry for the guys who were not catching....
Fin led me to see the light that my kindness and generosity was naive...and no matter how much I asked the guys to "keep their mouths shut and not bring their friends" on the nights when we got into nice fish....invariably the next night the area would be lit up like a festival from "friends of a friend" sent by guys who had falsely promised to keep their mouths shut about a bite......:don't know why:
I have also been approached for "conversation" by non-fishermen in the Asbury area quite a few times, before I wised up and realized they were looking for more than friendly conversation.....Yep when I first started in this game I was very naive and believed in the goodness and good intentions of everyone.....I sure did learn some harsh lessons along the way......:scared::bonk:
So....I may have gotten a little more surly over the years........:kicknuts:
Now...I don't talk to anyone out there at night...unless I recognize them, or have seen them fishing by themselves at least 3 times....it's all the OGB's fault. ;)
Monty, my sincere apologies for grumping at you that night....:HappyWave:
And the stories about me stinking like a sewer....
Smelling like a dumpster.....
Can't catch a fish to save my life....
All are carefully crafted PR.....to divert peoples' attention in directions other than mine...so I can fish in the quiet and solitude that I enjoy the most...:fishing:
Not much going on in Montauk the albies were out in front of the light house yesterday out of reach of course fly guys in boats were probably having a blast.Fluking is coming to a halt with the very occasional decent fish, sea bass/porgy are pretty good had a 4 lb. seabass yesterday surf isn't worth getting out of the truck as far as I'm concerned. I did see some blues off the sand beaches the other afternoon also out of reach.I may get out this afternoon if the winds lay down and do my last fluke/seabass trip.
