Fished the park 7-9. Wanted to get some time in before the bennnies show up this weekend. High tide was pretty high tonight. Few blues on bucktail.
My usual stretch of beach on the incoming tide one hour before sunrise. Managed one short right away and then another short about an hour later. Bucktail and grub. Water is cleaning up a bit but there is still rough surf in some areas.
Chunked overnight and the bluefish kept us busy throughout the night. We managed 4 bass overnight on the chunk, the two largest going 31# and 45# on boga (both released).
Check out the serious girth on the 45# along with the deformed stripes...would love to know what caused that and how long ago it happened.
Went on the troll at day break and put a mid 20# bass in the box and dropped another one.

Wow that is a true cow! Congrats, and on the release as well.
Nomoco last night. Slow pick of blues on dark colored MDs and SP.
That thing is a pig JB. Outstanding job.
Fished above island beach this morning before the crowds came. Out of there by 6am. Got a few blues on metal. When I was leaving the S wind kicked up and got a little funky. Hate that S wind, hope some of the rest of you got some fish.
Also wanted to add, great striper Jbarbosa congrats.
Now THATS a COW!! Good job man you have the magic touch!
You guys are doing great. I'm in a slump lately. Went out to try a few areas late night. The ocean winds were howling so I went to the back. Lots of guys fishing no one catching. Skunk for me.
Chunked yesterday morning in the bay for a few hours and had 3 stripers to 32" along with a few small bluefish and short fluke.
This one short bass had his pectoral fins clipped on both sides.
Interesting to see this RI and MA tactic of "conservation" against commercial fishing make its way down to NJ.

Nice going. Wondering why they would clip the pectoral fins. What purpose does that serve?
OC last night, rough surf and windy. Zippo for me.
Some gillnetters cut off pectoral fin to get fish out of a net
Some tournaments cut off fin when they weigh fish so fish can only be weighed once.
We keep bass alive in large live well and release after weighing, as many other non chest-pounders do
Yeah I thought that was curious as well. Thanks for the info.
This was like a 14" bass, maybe 16" using "NJ measurements"
I have heard about RI/MA guys cutting fins when they release a fish so if it ever gets caught by a commercial guy later on it can't be sold legally (those states require recreational anglers to clip fins so those recreational fish don't end up being sold).
Crazy stuff clipping fins off. Thanks for sharing.
Got a few blues down the beach at IBSP this morning. Bucktails and grubs seemed to be work best.
Yeah maybe a gillnetter?
Fished the park from 6-7A. Spearing in the wash. Some bluefish chowing on them, birds working further out. Dinner table is set.
Spearing finally! Where the heck were they for the last 2 months?
Fished CMC this am 4-5:30 on the outgoing tide. Water seems to be getting better. One striper 26 incher, and 2 blues on a bottle plug.
