I will let you know tomorrow if there are any fish along the Raritan Bay beaches. I have a feeling that we will be doing some walking. Heading out at midnight.
^^Hope ya ate your Wheaties, bro, your "guide" is a fishin maniac. ;)
If it takes 799 casts and 5 miles of walking to get one fish, he's making the casts and walking the walk.
Good luck, guys. :HappyWave:
well i had to go at try the big river the water was nice i fished with a small amount of bait but i still got some hits with the stuff i had i did not skunk out got a two ft eel  a fish is a fish at this point bait shop was closed :( but its cool still got out and fished:fishing::HappyWave:
Hey Jigfreak, the Dirty Water fishin has left a lot to be desired this year. In past years G had fish up to 48", and some of the regulars got as much as 75 nice bass over 15# and up to 40# per season.
This year hasn't shaped up at all like the past years when it comes to larger fish in the dirty water rivers and bay areas.
It's all good, just a little disappointing for us when we're trying to show people that there are big bass sometimes living within a few miles of their front door. :HappyWave:
Met up with a friend for some Dirty Water kayak fishin this morning. He had been into some teen bluefish and bass a few days ago when the mullet and peanuts got trapped and were hammered by some nicer fish. I specifically went over there looking for some angry gator bluefish. On that challenge, it didn't happen as the sick amounts of bait 4 days ago had thinned out.

However it was still an OK trip. I managed 4 small bass to 22" on the T&W. This was the first time we used the T&W at that spot this fall, and the first time for me at that location. He managed a few bass, one 8# bluefish at the end of the trip by drifting a snagged peanut, and a few fish that came unbuttoned as he drifted some porgies he got on sandworms, for bigger fish.
I didn't get my first fish until 7am.

In the next half hour, I managed a total of 4 bass on the flood, 2 of them being a double-header that hit within 5 secs of each other. :dribble: :headbang:That was the most exciting part, the rest of the morning was spent maneuvering around in the wind.

We each lost a few other fish on the T&W. I think the murky water may have had something to do with that. Visibility was at most 1-2'. The visibility of the water I usually fish T&W at is at least 6-8'
The wind was a steady 20mph, with sustained gusts of 25mph.
The wind made it a little tough for us as it was wind against tide for most of the morning. That can sometimes be to your advantage, I'll explain in the T&W thread in the kayak forums.

In all, I had fun fishin a new (to me) spot. A sincere debt of gratitude to my friend for giving me background about the place and the layout. He saved me a lot of scouting and guesswork, and he's a maniac fisherman to boot. I had a great time and learned a new place. :HappyWave:
Nice report Dark.
Darkskies I enjoyed reading that. Thanks for sharing with us.
Wow dark it seems like you are the "have kayak will travel" guy. Great report!

A fish is a fish is a fish....;) :fishing:
hey fellas good luck this year out there and be safe it these treacherous dirty waters!
anyways, i finally got out to do some night hunting, err fishing and headed down to my local river. Water was too warm in the 1st spot i tried(66*) so we made the move to the main river after 30mins or so.
We were surrounded by a massive school of silversides. it was crazy how flat the water was but when u moved they freaked out and made the water boil.
after about an hr with no hits, no signs of predators, I was just about to call it a night half way thru the incoming. thats when an angry 27.5" decided to come up to the surface out of the shadow line and scare the sh*t outta me. I love when that happens. big splash and rip, drag going, it felt good after a loong summer.
last year I caught my 1st keeper of the fall on sept 13th. i bet if i pinched his tail i would be able to call him this years 1st keeper, but hey I dont need any bad karma. of course nothing after that for the next hr... hope its a good season this year.:fishing::dribble:

When we were out fishin last night, G reported the Dirty Water places are starting to produce a little more, though nothing is consistent yet....
2 weeks ago a 45" bass was caught
About 1 week ago a 51" bass was caught.
These are still "needle in a haystack" fish. Lucky fish or whatever you want to call them, all caught on bunker. Most of the guys fishing the dirty water are catching short bass and small to medium bluefish. But every once in a while a nicer one is landed. The arrival of a regular stream of bunker in the water will help kick things up a bit. :fishing:
