some before and after pic
God those photos are heart breaking. Some people lost everything. How will they ever rebuild from that.
First, I talked to Dark today, he is fine, still has no power.
Second, thanks to all who posted the pictures of the results of the hurricane. We all live in our own little world, and those pictures/videos exposed the suffering outside of it. Beach replenishment will never defeat nature. Nature has a mind if its’ own, has no boundaries, and does as it pleases. My heart aches for the destruction caused along the coast. The mega rich will rebuild, but the average Joe, I don’t know if he will be able to rebound from the devastation and mental anguish caused by Sandy. My prayers go out to them, to give them strength and patience.
Third, my own selfish reasons- of walks/casting along some of those beaches on a calm fall day, years past, admiring the serenity and peacefulness, enjoying it to the fullness. Sometimes envying those who had the ocean right outside their door. The landscape will change, but the ocean will always remain a salvation for my head.
The pics and videos on this thread put the storm in perspective.
It is impossible to imagine anything this bad, but it happened. I am still stunned.
Thanks for posting (sharkhart great work as usual).
Thanks to all who have posted.....and if you still want to share pics, at any time, please don't feel yours are trivial, or not as "important" as the others you may have seen.....
We are not professional photographers, so you shouldn't expect that of yourselves either....
Anything that chronicles your experiences, is important.,........
Right after the storm, Pebbles and I spent 2 days in some of the worst areas, helping some folks who really needed it.
The devastation I saw still puts a lump in my throat when I think about it. :(
I felt the need to document. She stopped me, saying that the pics I wanted to take would be in invasion of privacy, and that the people who lost the most, still deserved dignity instead of having someone gawking at them with a camera.
Of course, as usual, she made a very valid point.
I wouldn't want someone posting pics of me and our family if we lost everything.
However, sometimes that is what is needed to get the point across, to others, who may not be aware of the devastation.
When we look for volunteers for a cause, you try to motivate that person to volunteer on a personal level....in a sense you want to reach their hearts, so they feel compelled to volunteer, or help in some way.....
IMO that's what pics and videos like this do....they help people to realize the damage, on a much more personal level......
At some point we must move on, forge ahead, but the pics are a valuable asset to motivate more people to get involved sometimes........
So if any of you other members have stories you want to share, pics to post, or links to videos, please post them.
Pebbles and I both had no idea of the damage, until we went down to some of these areas.....
You drive the Parkway and Turnpike now, even after the storm, and would have no clue as to the devastation just a few miles closer to the water......
In the last 2 weeks I have heard some of the saddest stories, enough to remember for a lifetime......
People I know, and family, from all along these coastal areas, different states, who have lost some material possessions, and some who have lost everything....
Beyond the obvious material damage, I have heard the stories that are heartbreaking, human loss and drownings.....
My sincerest condolences go out to all who have lost a loved one in this storm of a Century.....
Those feelings will diminish for some I know, but the sense of loss will never go away for others....
and I have tears in my eyes as I type this post......http://stripersandanglers.com/Forum/...cons/icon9.png
Thanks, all...... :HappyWave:
I want to talk time out for some special recognition for the posts by Fin and SharkHart.......Fin has not been hit as hard as others, but he has still suffered through no power........some of his friends have lost everything....we saw the damage first hand as he was kind enough to drive us around for a very sobering tour.....
SharkHart, your video, as others have mentioned, was compelling.....thank you for something that brings emotion to the top for me, every time I view it....:clapping: Going forward, for 2013 a goal I have is to start writing more, and I think it's time for you to bring your talents to the next level as well......so you know I will be harassing ya about it....be prepared...... :HappyWave:
***************
I will be repeating this throughout my posts....
There are still folks out there who will need help going forward....
Even though some have insurance, some are under insured, and that insurance check, if it comes, will not begin to cover their rebuilding.
Some will move, but please try not to fault those who stay and are determined to rebuild.....for some it is the home they have had for decades. Many thought they were prepared, but no one was truly prepared for a storm of this historic magnitude......
So if you can volunteer, and have a strong back and 2 good hands, please consider doing that......a lot of raw manpower is still needed to help folks get back on their feet again........
It will help some people, more than you could ever imagine......:learn:
Make sure you check out Dogfish246's video as well.....

I am in Toms River. We are a little elevated so only some water damage. Some sections got hit hard. These videos are very graphic representations of what happened and as said are good to jog the memory, lest we forget. Thoughts and prayers for all those who are still homeless.
Never want to see anything like it again. We were lucky just living with candles and flashlights for awhile. Stay safe. Shark great vid.
Hope you guys are ok. Lots of damage over here too. God bless.
Incredible detail and sadness in those pictures and videos. Thanks for sharing. I pray you all can get back some of your lives.
here are some that abc has, they superimposed them over each other so you can see the before and afterr. pretty dramatic.

Fin sent me a series of compelling videos today.
I don't feel good after watching them.
I'm a pretty tough guy, but some of them had tears rolling down my eyes.
I think by the time some of ya's finish viewing them you might be crying too.
I know a lot more of ya's have pics, please don't feel bashful about putting them up...they are all part of a chronicle of our experiences.
Thanks all for trying to help paint a better picture of what we went through....
And a special thanks to Fin., who lived through it all.... :clapping:
(Although he is still as grouchy as ever....) :moon:

Incredible, thanks for sharing.
This storm is one for the record books. Hopefully they will learn from it and design houses and building near the water with stilts or something like that.

That guy Lozinski has some talent, awesome pics dark. Capt nemo it still amazes me all the boats that ended up on bridges or rr tracks thanks for sharing. Jon the pain I saw that shark pic a while ago. You know it must be a hoax but it is still way cool. And the Statue of Liberty is about 3 miles into the inside of N Harbor and still got it that bad. Very scary when you think about it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow great pics fellas thanks for sharing. And hope some of the families that don't have houses now will find a way back to normal. I was near Breezy Point the other day and it is still trashed. I think it will take at least 2 years to put that back together.
Love those shark pics. That never gets old. Nice work jonthepain. Merry Christmas to you and yours. :HappyWave:
thanks baba. Merry Christmas!
