you know Nitestrikes,I was looking at the wood I fished with many years ago and compared it to what I fish with now and that stuff looks like it's for schoolies only.
even the big-daddy goo-gooo eyes swimmer looks light and small next to my stuff now.
BTW,gibbs are now making the goo-goo eyes plugs,,,the very same way they were originally designed too!
thanks for the kind words M8,,,

Great looking plugs R-P.
What are their weights?
Nice work Roddy! :HappyWave:
Another few weeks and you guys should be into fish up there....:fishing:
Nice They have to be heavy as heck. Are you using a conventional to sling them?

this color combo works well in low light-darkness,did well with it till my hasty retie was not what I thought,I lost it as i didn't tie it correctly in the dark,,so,i built 2 more, heres one,a flat top rip-runner.
it's flat from nose to tail on top like my new designed mustang but,not as wide as the mustang is.

this is a stubby type based on my fat mullet design,it has a very wide profile from below.
I figger it will move a lot of water on top and make a huge wake as I crank it slow, waggling on top, will see.
I did something rather odd with this one.
it does look as though it is a 3 hook plug but,I added a middle hanger to eliminate the dead space between the tail hook and front hook.
the front hook will be a 4/0,the tail will be either a 3/0 treble dressed or a single dressed.then to close off the dead space between them,I will add a 2/0 treble as a stinger hook to possibly hook those fish that take a stab at that area of the plug.
I know it sounds crazy but, I believe it will work.
will see.

Trolling fatcat.yellow/red bottom.
I made this for a friend that trolls around the block island area,he is a trolling freak and has some big girls under his belt,I hope this one will add more to it.
I raked back the lip angle to give it a deeper dive, hope it works.
this one gave me fits while epoxy coating it.
the epoxy was 30 minute devcon and it began setting up after about 3 minutes,I was forced to use the fire from the stove to save it from setting up hard,it did work as the extra heat made the epoxy thinner and that gave me the extra time to get it covered right.

not a new plug but, new paint on a very old plug.this plug is from 1981.
a real Leo cooper goo-goo eyes swimmer, not the big daddy but, the smaller one,I forget the name right now.
came out good despite the pock marks from big gators from way back then.
I added some silver dust[courtesy of WWM] to the epoxy to give it some sparkle.

I sure hope so,I am an old boy scout and I am going out there armed/ready to catch some monster fish.
got the rods, reels, line and plugs to do it so,I am just gonna do it.
rods are ready, reels are spooled up and my blades sharp, let the games begin!

2 for Sandy's bag
1-a fat bastard yellow over pink chocolate.
2- a reworked piece, this one was a very fat mullet,so fat in fact that it only waddled,I stripped the hangers and lip off and narrowed the nose quite a bit then narrowed the tail end and the hump and now it is a plug I call "short trip".
originally it was built in 011 but it is now redesigned and swims cool with a wag like a ducks tail.

Thanks Buckethead,,
well, there are lots of fish in the housatonic now at the power plant,I usually start in may,I don't do the preliminary fishing anymore,I simply target larger fish.
I could actually start in april or when the water temps get to about 42F.
I do go early but, not all out,I fish hard just before the bunkers show up which is usually about late april or early may.

Those are some of the fattest plugs I have ever seen. Thanks for posting
I have great success with large wood,I guess I have always had a knack for it.it began in 1978 when I first got into saltwater fishing, gators were what was on the menu and I did very well with them on large wood back then.
now that same large wood is smaller than what i build now and looks inadequate to me.
at any rate they work and thats what I want them to do.
thanks for looking M8.

ripplugger you must be making some of the biggest plugs in the fishing world. don't think I have seen many that big!
Hi Porgy75.
I'll tell you what, big plug gets the fish's attention for sure.
I had a talk with a guy that is not a local guy,he fishes a spot I fish a lot and he came up to me and said what the hell were you throwing?,,you were the only one getting bit.5 other guys and me only got swipes but, no takers.
so,I explained to him like I am going to explain to you now.
here goes,I asked him what are the fish feeding on?,,he said bunkers and herring.I said right.
then I asked him what are those baitfish doing?,he said swimming for their lives.I said right.
I asked him what are those same baitfish doing when not being chased?,he said they are swimming normally.I said correct!
then I asked him why are you fishing with a plug that does not swim?,he said,,,i don't know but, I have caught fish on this lure before.I said ok.
then I explained to him why I asked him so many questions.sometimes the simple answers pass right by us and we don't see the picture.
those fish are hungry and they are chasing adult bunkers/herring.
they are only slamming my plug because it is swimming and it's size is telling them it is here swimming along and it then becomes a target.
it is moving lots of water,it is creating a big wake and it is sloshing water as it goes along.
another important point is it is large so,it is showing a profile to the fish,a profile that is large and not hard to find.
will they chase a standard spook type lure?,yes they will.
will they tire of chasing such a lure?,yes they will.
a slow moving, wake making, water sloshing big profile plug will always draw in a fish thats nosy, curious or hungry from a longer distance because it is:
1-louder
2-easy to find
3-easy to overcome/overtake
4-seemingly unknowing of the fact that it is being hunted!
there are other factors that apply but, they are only basic.
that is why I fish large wood almost exclusivley,it works.
I have proven it a hundred times last season.my partner may have caught 6-10 fish that morning[25-30 inch] but,I caught 4-5 good fish[36-40 inch],not schoolies.
if they follow it but, don't hit it,they are either too small anyway or spooky.
so Porgy75,thats it in a nutshell.
I see so many guys with 5-6 inch plug on and they are not producing.I clip on a 12 inch swimmer and catch 3 nice fish,,you tell me why I caught them.
