Monty sent me some teasers as well to dress the back of the plugs with. I thought the work was pretty detailed, nice full bucktail, sturdy hooks. He's a little modest. ;) :HappyWave: So I thought I would take a pic and show a little of what this guy is capable of. :clapping:

Dark, I used to tie trout flies (been 20 years). Started up again this past December. Lots of fun!.
I am still trying to come up with durable flies (teasers and tail hooks). Think I am getting there.
The one pic is jrodscustomtackle metal with a tail I tied up (replaced the one that the blues demolished:thumbsup:)

Beautiful stuff, Monty. I have been using those teasers for awhile now, and you wanted feedback. I like them because they seem "full" in the water. Whatever amount of bucktail you're using, I think you hit on the right formula. Maybe in the next few weeks I can finally put up some pics of decent fish as the spearing and peanut bunker build up. Great work! :clapping:
Met these 2 guys a few weeks ago at the Hook, and took them on a whirlwind tour to try to get some fish. We ended up at one place where we had fish for about 2 minutes, and the dolphins came along and put thngs down. Hey, dolphins gotta eat too, right? ;)
These guys were cool, forgot their names though. Think one guy's name was Will, think the other guy's name was Walt. Anyway, they were so generous they gave me some of their hand tied flys, which I'll use as teasers. They will come in handy now as the spearing start to build up. Great work, guys, and thanks.

Made by Will, peanut and small bait imitation with goggle eyes :wow:

Surfstix heard that I love throwing needles in the fall. He sent me 2 custom needles for Pebbles and I. He also threw in a few of these hand tied flys.

His skill set is way up there now...
the level of detail and the way these swim, they're just awesome and the perfect presentation for fall forage fish.
Thanks so much, bro, hope to have some fish hangin on em soon! :clapping: :HappyWave:
Nice bro those surf candy is just in time for th albeeess
just in time and just what I had in mind for Rich
Here are some flies I tyed up last night. This is the first time I used Plasti-Dip to cover the Eyes, and Wraps. I also spreaded past the hook to keep it from fauling. The fly was based on Steve Farrar MV baitfish.

Great work guys. surfstix those flys seem to have a good broad profile. How do you do that, just by putting in more hair?
Vpass nice work have you been doing this a long time?
Thanks keep up the good work guys.
Here you go
^^ Told ya's he's a grouchy ******* basstid......:kooky:
some of ya's don't believe me.........
My day isn't complete...until Fin yells at me at least once....
:ROFLMAO I'm sure you can catch some really smelly fish with that.
What is that finchaser, the wiggle worm fly?:HappyWave:
btw beautiful work surfstix and vpass!
This is one of my first ties...a nice little clouser ready to be sacrificed to whatever is willing to bite it; I now try and tie them with a little less bucktail on top. Special thanks to DS for always having a camera handy. Attachment 17056
That's only one of your first? Sweet work.
Nice work V how goes it.
I would say I have only tied 6 flies in total Max, all were clousers. I went heavy on the flash with this fly as it was intended for the bluefish. I need to pickup some more materials for some different ties next week.
I have watched a lot of videos online and spent two days at the Somerset fly fishing show picking the brains of some FF legends including Bob Clouser. What a class act Bob is; I can't say enough good things about everyone who helped at the show.
This video is of Bob Clouser showing how he ties the clouser minnow:

Nice looking job jb!
Attachment 17209this may be too ambitious LOL! Attachment 17210 weighted heads look good
OK so I have been obsessed with tying my own flies. Low and behold my very first fly. Ladies and gentlemen I present to you my Lefty Deceiver.
Attachment 17217
Nice job, you've got it.If that's your first one you can tie mine...
Thanks! I am trying. That is my nature- I obsess and try and figure everything out. I do notice and have to work on when I tie, I can't make things 100% even. I know that 100% perfection is probably #1 not necessary and #2 not possible, but the OCD in me likes things to be even, LOL! I just ordered some UV Knot Sense to use (put it on and run out side- LOL!)for building my heads. I like the look of the large eyes with the epoxy heads, but my wife is about to shoot me so I can't throw another chunk of money at the bigger bottle of the Loon UV Glue and Light.
Has anyone ever taken the rear hook off of your swimmers and attached a leader and fly to that? I have to be honest , I am almost ready to grab a wood dowl and dril out the center and use it as casting plug for the fly. In other words, I really just want to fish the fly but I don't want to get back into buying a fly rod,....any ideas?
rob I think I read something here about a casting egg. Maybe finchaser started the thread. Do a search. nice tie for your first time, great thread here thanks for sharing the beautiful work fellas.
Here are a couple more. The purple deceiver my Wife tied in the hackle feathers (one fell out, LOL! I don't think that one will last) and a simple baitfish pattern using EP fiber. I am not sure if the baitfish will last (at least the eyes) I super glued them on but not sure overall about it. Attachment 17223Attachment 17224
sorry, I hope I am not annoying. But I trimmed my lil baitfish to make it look better and my wife has some spray glitter glue. I shot the top of my baitfish to give it more of a mullet look. I am curious how it will do in water.
Attachment 17225
The glitter will fall off eventually but on the positive side it will add flash and as the glitter falls off it will appear to look like tiny scales to a predator. What material is that?I'm going to shoot you a PM.
EP Fibers 3D Enrico Puglisi - Baitfish Belly Cream but I am not sure if I like it all that much. What I do like is the deceiver fly. The white feathers (I think they are rooster hackles- is that correct?) and the bucktail. Looks great in the water. I ordered some rabbit strips to do some zonkers. I used to fish zonkers for largemouth a lot. I just got a package with baitfish emulator and some fishskulls. I will post a pic as soon as I am done tying one.
Attachment 17230
Here is the baitfish emulator fly. I think the long fibers will get caught up in the hook. This is the 5.5" long. I think the 3.5" long would be better for 2/0 and smaller.
Very nice work gents.
No it doesn't you can try tying some white bucktail under the EP fibers for support or tie down a mono loop off the back of the hook
ok got another one.Baitfish. I used baitfish emulator for the body and polar flash for the top in aqua rainbow. I used huge eyes. I wanted to see how the UV knot sense works. Man it is harder than it looks. One of the eyes started to curve from the glue but I got it to cure before it got too bad. I am not entirely happy with the choice of a red eye and the size of it on the fly but hey that's what experimenting is all about. Attachment 17240Attachment 17241
Attachment 17242Attachment 17243 another one- this one I used a silver eye. Much better eye choice.
