The hellcat is a great profile to mimic shrimp and early season small whitebait, good choice.

Was out there this AM again. Five short Bass largest ~ 24 inches.
1 on bomber, 1 on 4 ?” hellcat, 1 on Hydro Minnow (6:00 AM fish, all other action in dark)and two on loaded small redfin.
Missed a couple hits and I think I lost 1 fish.
Saw no bait. Whatever they are feeding on its small and thin like you mentioned, no action for me on anything of size (darters or metal lips).

Good job. Fished a ss inlet last night. 6-9:30. Little bit of problem withe the weeds so I switched up from bucktail to SP. Got one striper 23 inches and a sea robin. Hit the plug like a striper!
Blues are finally here. Got into them this afternoon, SS inlet on the front. Tins did it for me. Other ppl were using bucktails and chunked bunker. My arms are tired, good tired.
Congrats on the Blues!
I am still in the West Sound, trying to learn the area a bit. This AM trip, murky water.
Three shorts (Lokie SM, Chartreuse Bucktail and rubber on 1/2 jig head). Missed a few hits, lost a fish, all action when current was strongest.

I would pass on the w sound till June when the blues come in and the bass come up the east river from the hudson. There are some nice bass to be had on the SS. Fished last night in the rain, 3 striped bass to 34" on a yellow darter. Bluefish have been running through in the daytime as well. Good luck
Congrats RH they are a lot of fun.
Got a few striped bass to 35" last night after the rain. 2 hours after high tide. SS. Same yellow darter. Released.
