    Default Tips for boating beginners?

My brother is looking at some used boats. We never owned one before, want to split the costs, are nervous about safety and doing things right. Any tips or heads up for beginner boaters so we don't look like some of the idiots out there that don't have a clue? (Right now we don't have a clue, but want to learn so we don't look dumb).

I don't think looking dumb should be the question. Getting yourself killed or someone else should be. I think the best way to get comfortable boating is to have someone show you. I did it on my own and it was a very scary experience but, I got it down pretty quick. You have to take the safety course first. Remeber safety is the number one thing you have to be concerned with. everything else like handling the boat is pretty easy and a lot of fun. I have a boat and wouldnt mind showing you. let me know.
