Default 2008 Fluke Regulations Thread - NJ Marine Fisheries Council (NJMFC)

[ This is the thread to adress and discuss all the happenings with the fluke fishery. It is up to us fishermen to keep informed, and stay involved. Please don't wait till it's too late. Even if you can't attend any of the meetings, you can write letters, or make phone calls.

Although phone calls are acceptable, nothing is more effective than hundreds of hand-written, or e-mailed, personally written letters arriving at a representative's office in support of a position. They show the Rep or Senator that the writer took the time out of their busy day to say something, and could take the time to vote them out of office if they don't at least consider our concerns.

Please educate yourselves every chance you get, no matter which positions you support. Pick one, and learn! An informed voter is an educated voter, and one not likely to be dismissed! ]

The meeting is tonight Thursday March 6th at 7pm. Please try to be there if you can. Thanks!

On 2/26/08 the NJ Marine Fisheries Council Summer Flounder Committee met with their advisors and discussed options for the 2008 fishing season to be presented to the full Council on March 6th. The following options will be presented:

The JCAA supports Option E, the RFA is deciding between Option D and E and the United Boatmen are supporting option D. The advisors to the NJ Marine Fisheries Council recommended Option D so that is what we are going to get unless a lot of us go the NJ Fisheries Council meeting on 3/6 at 4Pm. and show strong support for Option E. It makes no sense to go to the meeting and ask for anything other than one of the five options listed below.

SIZE LIMIT BAG LIMIT OPEN SEASON
    A 17.5” 2 6/28 to 9/8

    B 17.5” 8 7/4 to 9/2

Just wanted to post the consensus voted on in the meeting tonight:

Option D was approved by the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council
Season begins 5/24 and ends on 9/7
    8 fish bag limit
    18" size limit.

Also we will be able to legally use fluke back or belly from a legal sized fluke we catch. However, the rack must be kept onboard and will count as one of the fish towards your limit.
