Default Tips for light hitting spring bass

I usually wait a little longer, or downsize the hook. Circles are one of the biggest helpers.

I disagree. Maybe for the first 2 weeks when you're catching 17 inch bass. After that, I use Gami 8 or 10. Bass have big mouths. Big circles increase your chances, and help as the larger fish filter in.

Also a great idea to just fish one pole, and hang on. Sometimes thye're just mouthing the clam, gotta be ready to set that hook.

Most of these light tap taps are winter flounder and all small hooks do is gut hook small fish. bass have big mouths and theres no need to use under a 5/0 hook

Fin, mine wasn't that light. Like I said I opened my bail and he swam with it. will flounder swim off with half a clam in it's mouth? This is a serious? I am using 5/0 gamagatsu baitholders.

Wasn't referring to you,I was commenting on when people get lite taps in the early spring many think there bass and down size hooks. In the rivers many bass are caught by flounder fisherman sometimes more than flounder. I know yours swam off.

The other night I was reading a post where someone was giving advice on back bay fishing. He was telling everyone to downsize the hooks and he never misses a bass. You put a 3/0 hook on so you can catch a micro baby bass. ***? How is that even sporting to do that?

That's stupid. Just hold your rod instead of having 5 spiked in a row. Problem solved.
