    Default Untangle a bird

Recently caught a seagull felt real bad, couldn’t get him untangled ended up cutting the line. Has anyone else had this experience. What is a way to untangle the bird without causing it great distress or harm?

Some people on the Hook directed me to a tangled sea bird and I suggested putting a towel over it's head before untangling it. Unfortunately it got away before we even got close enough. Easier said than done.

That is what I have done. A towel over the bird calms him down and makes it easier to handle.

Take that towel and hold the bird tightly and firmly. If it struggles it will end up hurting itself, and maybe you if there are hooks involved. Don't panic. After all, holding a bluefish is worse.
