Default Top of the line reel, or high end rod?

If you had a budget and could only get one reel, like the VS250, or get a high end rod like a lami custom blank made to order to your specs, and had to pair the primo choice with a bare bones choice (VS with a walmart rod, or something like that) which choice would you make?

    I would take the reel.
You can pick up a used rod for under 100.00
Fenwick Saltstiks (no longer made) can be found for under $100.00 at times.
The VS will be reliable, give you piece of mind when in the surf with sand and salt.
That said, when you have the reel, gonna have to do homework and look long and hard for the rod (used).
    Thats what I would do.

I would get the reel as it can be made better with a few small ideas.
a decent rod is very affordable and can be found if you hunt.
it does not have to be a lamiglas,it can be something fine off the rack.
a pinnacle or something from tsunami will work wonders if you pick the RIGHT one.

    cheers
