TRY THIS - kayak fishing

Published: May 15, 2009
If you've always wanted to try kayak fishing but just never had the opportunity, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has a program for you.

Its kayak fishing workshop at Pocahontas State Park will take novice kayakers and kayak fishermen and turn them into knowledgeable anglers and boaters and get them ready for a summer on Virginia's fishable waters. Kayaking is fun, but add fishing to it and the enjoyment doubles.

The workshop will take place June 3, and instructional sessions will be followed by lunch and kayak fishing on Swift Creek Lake. Participants must be at least 12 years old, and a registered adult must accompany those under 16. The cost is $15 and pre-registration is required by May 22.

For more information and to pre-register, contact Chris Dunnavant at (804) 367-6778 or Chris.Dunnavant@dgif.virginia.gov . -- Andy Thompson
