Default July 09 Harbor Tackle Report, W. Ocean City, Md.

Harbor Tackle Fishing Report July 3, 2009

    Happy 4th of July.

Not too much of anything happening unless you like undersized flounder. The beach is producing rays, skates, small flounder, kings, blues, and sharks. Lots of flounder in the bay; however, most are under legal size. Legal flounder are about 20 – 25% of an angler’s total catch. Most of the legals are hitting live spot and Berkley Gulp. Trigger fish and tog at the Inlet and between 2nd and 4th Streets. A few legal stripers have been reported at the Rt. 50 Bridge and in the Inlet. Croakers have been hit or miss. They are just starting to show up in the bay and in the surf. Darin Turner caught a 3.86 lb 22 ½ pound flounder and Chris Wilkinson hooked up with a 2.8 lb 19 inch flounder. Both were taken from the Rt. 50 Bridge. Bill Snyder caught a 25 inch 5.99 lb flounder from 4th Street using live spot for bait. Bryton Adkins caught a 24 ½ inch Spanish mackerel in the Ocean City Inlet.

Harbor Tackle has fresh bunker, live peelers, live minnows, live chowder clams, live black saltys, live eels, live green crabs, and salted sea/surf clams.

Good to see the kingfish are in the surf. They're tasty fish when you fry them up.

Harbor Tackle Fishing Report July 10, 2009

The surf is still kind of slow. 18 and 22 inch flounders were taken from the surf last weekend. A customer caught a 37 inch striper and 5 foot sand tiger shark from the beach. Also some kingfish, blues, skates and rays from the suds. Some croakers are coming from the Inlet and the back bay by the Assateague Bridge. Lots of undersized flounder being taken with a few more legals mixed in from the usual places. Triggerfish are in the Inlet and 2nd & 4th Streets. Jeff Schmidt caught a 25 ½ inch 6.58 pound flounder from 2nd Street.

Triggerfish in the inlet, that must mean the water is really warm down there. They fight hard on light tackle.

Harbor Tackle Fishing Report July 27, 2009

Nothing much has change in the past few weeks. The surf is producing more big sharks, croakers, blues, and kingfish along with plenty of rays and skates. Lots of flounder caught in the usual places; however, most are under the 18 inch minimum. The croaker catch is getting better. Some small tog are around. The Inlet and the Rt. 50 Bridge are producing legal stripers, blues, and flounder.

David Moore caught an 8 ½ foot shark at Assateague Island using fresh bunker for bait. Ryan Starner caught a 46 ½ inch 27 lb. 5 oz. cobia at the Fenwick Shoal. Jere Putt hooked up with a 7 lb. 5 oz. 25 inch flounder in the East Channel using live spot.
